I hate, i mean HATE studying .
I start my homework at 1 in the morning, and can't seem to focus even then.
I know I'm wasting so much time AND killing my health and suchh
I need motivation.
Tell me what you do to get yourself to study and actually CONCENTRATE.

I have the same problem. I suffer from procrastination as well:/ However, what I think it comes down to is actually doing the work. You just have to start doing it. Whether that means turning off your computer, following a schedule, or just reading some inspiration quotes while throwing a quick glance at that college poster in your room haha. What usually gets me to start working is when I look at the time. The time serves as an indicator of how much time I have remaining and what I need to accomplish. I think being organized and setting up a schedule would also be effective. Having said that though, I must admit that I have yet to follow through with this suggestion. Perhaps we can try it out together:)

Competing with my friends for grades or having them push me. Seriously, the computer gets repetitive and redundant(procrastination) after a while. Just note that when you get to your junior/senior year, your college advisor will have an easier time with you when it showed that you didnt procrastinate.

Motivation, to me, is fear. Make a picture of yourself (Photoshop) doing manual labor and wiping someone’s ass (that person being someone who was successful in school). And trust me, you will be studying your little behind off.

Some people are just intrinsically motivated to work all the time (good genes?), but you don’t need to be one of those people to do well. Remember, high school is mostly effort-based. You work hard, and you’ll get decent grades. At the same time, don’t take it too seriously. Have a decent amount of fun (not a lot though) and remember what you do now determines whether or not you will be the HERO or the lowly SIDEKICK.

My friend opens all his windows and makes his room freezing. At 2am in the morning though. We’re procrastination buddies :]

Eating things helps me feel awake. Put a very cold bottle of Gatorade or something on your desk.

I also turn off my screen. So the screen is black without having to actually turn off the computer.

I’m a really unmotivated person. I just know that “I have to do this” so I do it against my own will : P

Maybe instead of staying up really late, wake up earlier to study? This way the computer won’t be on and the house will be quiet. I usually study in the mornings :]

well for me it kind of depends on the subject. Some stuff I actually like for the subject itself, for everything else I just think I’d rather do it now in highschool than have to bother with it in college. Last year in my apush class there was this one guy I really hated because he was so arrogant and snobby, so I always studied extra hard so that when we took the test I could raise the curve and he would get a bad score. He ended up with a C- in the class. Seeing his pompous smirk be crushed my his low grade was plenty motivation for me. So if there is anyone you dislike in your classes, you can try that.

I couldn’t concentrate either if I did my homework at 1am!!! You ask what would motivate you to start your work earlier? How about a good 8 hours sleep!

When I know something is due like tomorrow and I still have a lot of work to do on it (i.e. a project or an essay) I really buckle down and realize that I have to finish it.

Nothing really … unless I’m genuinely interested in the subject, but I’m get annoyed with the all busy work I have to do for other subjects that by time I have to study, I’m usually wiped out. It certainly doesn’t help that my environment isn’t really the best for studying - that often kills my motivation.

For some reason, it seemed like I managed my time better when I had a lot more on my plate. The more time I have seemingly have (like the days I get home early) - the less things get done for some reason.

Parkinson’s Law: Work expands to fill the time available for its completion. – VERY TRUE

Mmmm … I have some of the same issues when it comes to certain work.

I would say go to the library with your computer and homework. I feel that if I see other people working around me, I’m like “oh, i should work too” and I get my work done that way much more efficiently. Idk. It works for me.

I agree with the people who said TIME!! It just seem like I work best under pressure, but thats not good!

Just to tell you a little story, I have been number 1 in my school since freshmen yr. I am not thinking highly of it because my school is not competitive at all. Anyway by junior yr I dropped to number 2 the 1st term then I was back to number 1. Long story short, it’s my senior yr now and I am number 3!!! What motivates me is knowing that I have worked too hard to let anyone take my spot. IMO, studying is not a necessity, being that some people will pass without doing it. But if you must, you need to be self motivated. Once in college, and you can apply it to life after as well…it’s all up to you. Hang up those motivating posters, form study groups, have someone call you at a specific time everyday to make sure you are studying or completing your assignments.

Think about it this way. Homework is like procrastination in that they both kill time. Treat homework like procrastination (study slowly yet deliberately while doing other things).

AHHHHHH THANK YOU EVERYONE!
I READ EVERY SINGLE REPLY ON THIS THREAD
I never expected so many replies ! hahahahaa
I’m gonna try to post a motivational picture on my wall so I’ll constantly be reminded (:
Thanks again!

i remember some quotes
work can be CHEAP, GOOD QUALITY, or QUICK. i focus on 2, so like if i want something done quickly it will either be bad quality or it will be expensive.

and…
work done is a function of time and your focus. work = time x focus. i have to balance. when time passes by, my focus goes down, like, i cant work on an essay for 4 hours and do a good job. its balance…it helps
