My celebrity crush (Nick Jonas) aspires to go to Northwestern. That’s pretty much my whole reason for trying hard in school. Lame, I know. My system works, though.

Also, I have African Parents. I got a C on a math test one time, and I was forced to do 100 squats every day until I could retake the test. I don’t think it’s just Asian parents; all foreign people are crazy.

To situate myself around smart people. Not that all people who don’t work hard are dumb, or that all who do are smart, but the quality of people in APs in general is better, and I wanna go to a selective school with an intelligent, fairly intellectual student body.

I always have loved this quote though:
“You ought to go to a boy’s school sometimes. Try it sometime,” I said. “It’s full of phonies, and all you do is study so that you can learn enough to be smart enough to be able to buy a goddamn Cadillac some day…”

Yup. Basically I’m just aiming for that Caddy. :D

to get away from lame people.

In the beginning [Elementary school], it was mostly because I loved being smarter than everyone and even more because I loved learning.

Then, through Middle School and Freshman year, it became “to make my family proud.” A sad plot twist made it “to prove to my parents that I can do without their explicit support” and “so I can change the world”. I still love to learn and be challenged.

Trying to balance out my motivations now…
