So I was accepted into Cu Boulder about a week ago and was just wondering what my next step should be. Do I have to enroll before finding about financial aid info or can i apply for aid first?

Didn’t you apply for financial aid already? I think you may have missed the deadline for that already…Did your family fill out the FAFSA at least and list Colorado as one of the schools to send the report? If you are out of state you automatically will be considered for the Chancellor’s or Presidential scholarships without having to do a thing. If you get selected for those scholarships, they will send you a letter about three-4 weeks after your acceptance usually.

Well I did fill out the fasfa form with boulder on the list. Does this mean I cant apply for aid?

The FAFSA is what colleges use to determine your need-based aid. If you turned that in on time, you should be getting an estimate soon of any need-based grants or loans. My daughter’s came about a week or so after her acceptance.

If you want merit aid, there is a separate form on the mycuboulder website that you have to fill out. The deadline is past, but if you haven’t done that, I’d recommend doing it asap. My daughter took a class at CU last summer (as a high school student). We found out past the deadline that they offered a special summer scholarship for high school students. She turned it in late and still got a nice scholarship.

CU doesn’t make it easy to find: Sign in to mycuboulder, click on the “Finances” tab, go down to where it says “Scholarship Application” and click on “More.” Click on "Start scholarship application. Unfortunately, the deadline was Mar. 1, but again, I would recommend filling it out anyway; it can’t hurt.

Wow I wish I was smart enough to research or ask about all this a month ago. Can somebody give me the low down on scholarships and fasfa and how it works? I have 67 community college credits and I paid for it all my self. Seems like I asked someone about fasfa a few years ago and it seems like they said my parents made too much money to qualify for anything, So I never filled anything out. I think together my parents make about $70,000/yr. and last year I made just under $8,000 on unemployment. I am almost 24 and still live at home. Could I qualify for anything? I don’t mind paying for my school but if theres something out there that I could possibly get I guess I should try right. Sounds like I missed the date for the fall semester but could I possibly get in on something for the spring 2012 semester? I guess I was hoping to hear if I was accepted or rejected before I did anything else but its been a month and a half and still no word.
