wrong forum before but lol this should be a fun post in here as well...

Well... then again, maybe not that extreme, ya think taking a stance on controvercial topics will hurt you that much?

"What's the college's name again"?

lol...flipsta

"yeah...can we hurry up here...I have another interview."

Columbia says that every year kids write that they want to come there for journalism......which is only a graduate program. Don't mention a major that doesn't exist.....do some research.

"So, why do you want to go to ___?"

"Actually I don't really want to. I'm just applying because my parents made me."

"Um, well, it's a safety...like, if I don't get in anywhere else, I'll go..."

gum chewing "Ummmmm.....uhhh, well, the campus is really pretty..." gum smack smile

staring above interviewer's head, eyes glazed start "Wait, I'm sorry....wha'dyou say? I wasn't paying attention..."

-"Actually I don't really want to. I'm just applying because my parents made me."

i have a cousin that said exactly that in an interview. suffice to say, he didn't get accepted.

"ooops, wrong interview" innocent look

"I'd be a reach for you!" condescending look

"You graduated in xxxx year? I wasn't even BORN then."

"I have a hard time motivating myself to do my best. Going to Harvard and being around students who are highly motivated would help me get motivated."

"I want to study business at Harvard."
(Harvard's business program is only graduate level.)

Actually said to me when I interviewed students.

"I have a hard time motivating myself to do my best. Going to Harvard and being around students who are highly motivated would help me get motivated."

I've heard that one a lot of times. Many of my classmates wrote that on their uni application forms. Its a good thing entry in Aus for most courses is based purely on marks. Funny though.

ps- whats so wrong about saying that? I know it shows your not motivated and more of a sheep but is there any other reason?

Harvard and similar schools are looking for students who are self motivated and will be leaders in college and after college. It's a college that's a wonderful place for people who are self motivated because the college will allow students to do virtually any legal EC or class that they want to do. For instance, as long as a student can find an instructor (and with H's large faculty, there are plenty of options), a student can take an independent study in any subject that they wish to.

There are colleges that pride themselves on helping the late bloomers find themselves. Such colleges have professors who'll call students if they skip class, etc. H is not one of those colleges. Students who need others to motivate them need to go elsewhere.

Don't say "john hopkins" instead of "johns hopkins" if your interviewing for JHU =P

"Hotel School? Is that like where you learn to be a maid?"

"Yeah, I was never that great with people, I don't have many friends."

"I hate homework, does this major... er... give a lot?"

I hope you can look beyond my SATs. I took about 3 SAT classes and had a private tutor but my scores still did not go up. Actually said to me in an interview. Too much information!

lol, that's pretty good.

wait hold on, arizonamom and whoever that have given interviews. Do you prefer a guy that goes to an interview prepared? Or do you prefer someone who just like sits back and talk to you?

"I want to go to ___________[Brown] because that's where all my friends are going." Alumni interviewer STRONGLY recommended against accepting this student as the school is not looking for "sheep." Don't believe many kids from that high school were accepted in any case.

". Do you prefer a guy that goes to an interview prepared? "

Of course. I would far prefer to interview someone who has taken the time to learn about my alma mater and to think about what it has to offer them and what they have to offer it. I don't want to waste my time with someone who has never even looked at the college's web page or thought about why they are applying.

I don't want to sit with someone who simply yammers with no point.

wanderer agree with Northstarmom, but also like when students can be themselves and not stiff , have their own opinions and hopes and experiences and are not just saying what they think you want them to say. Be yourself, and be sincere and you will do fine. I enjoy when students are excited about something they have done or want to do and that excitement comes through! Just make sure you have some background knowlege of the school as Northstarmom stated. Another hint, dropping a little thank you note after the interview is very nice. I had a student who e-mailed me a note as soon as he got home and I was pretty impressed. He referred to our conversation. My D did that for her interviews as well! Good luck! Fun thread!

"Just to let you know, I have, like, an interview at ___________(rival school) tomorrow. If you like, accept me and stuff it would make them like, SO jealous!!!"

"You already have like, 5,000 A+ Students ALREADY. Accepting a C- Average student adds diversity, right?"
