What now? Going to a CC.

Hi, I'm new here and I just hope I can get reliable if not helpful information from these boards. Not sure if I'm posting this in the right forum : l

My situation: I 'was' attending a four year institution and was put on academic probation by the end of my freshman year and failed to raise my GPA this past semester (I'm a sophomore). I was academically dismissed and I appealed. My appealed failed and more than likely I'm going to attend a JUCO for this spring term.

My question(s):
1) Can the credits I earned from from my previous university transfer over to my JUCO?
2) Are my chances for graduate school completely gone?

another question. . .

3) Should I get 60 credits from my JUCO and then apply to a university or would the 60 credits be added by my JUCO credits and my previous university combined?

buuuummmpppp

i don't see why your credits from the university would not transfer to a CC. best bet would be to contact the CC admissions office and ask. as for the 3rd question i guess it depends on where you would like to transfer into. if you have too many earned credits you aren't eligible to apply at some schools. so if you earned 60credits at university and 60 more at a CC you would be ineligible. you should check the transfer websites of the schools you want to go to. that will give you the best idea of which way to go.

i'm personally in the same situation as you, I was dismissed from my first school after 3semesters and 33 credits earned. i decided to just start fresh at the community college i'm currently attending. this isn't a problem for me because my top choice schools have a cap on how many credits will transfer to my degree but no cap on how many i've earned overall. i will just be relinquishing the 33credits from my first school.

in sum, i would say contact the schools you want to transfer into and ask them their policies.

OK, that helps a little. Can I get the money back for this semester since I already payed or is it non refundable?

from the community college? you should be able to. my school gives a 100% refund during the add/drop period which is the first week of classes. after that the percentage you get back goes down.

I mean my previous university. I thought my appeal would be accepted but that didn't work out (I already payed for my 2nd semester which I won't be starting).

buuuuuumppp

If you already paid, then they have rules about when you should drop your courses to get your refund. If these dates haven't passed yet, then make sure that your courses show as having been dropped. (Go or call the registrar's office directly to explain the situation and find out exactly what you need to do).

Best of luck at your new school.

Everything has been worked out in terms of the tuition I already payed. I'm going to receive a full refund so I'm am happy about that.

Now, would it be wise to start all over again at my JUCO and lose the credit from my previous university or continue my credits and earn my AA? My dad wants me to go back to a university ASAP, so I really don't know what to do.
