Unsure How To Proceed

Hello everyone. I came to this forum because I don't know where else to turn.
The advisers at my community college constantly give wrong information and the transfer office at the school I want to go to is always vague. I'm the first person in my family to attend college so they can't help either.

Anyway, I'm looking to transfer schools in the spring. I have about 50 credits at community college (66 after this semester) and a 4.0. I will have my Associate of Arts degree after this semester.

I applied in late September to transfer to University of Missouri. I figured I'd have no trouble getting in: they have very high acceptance rates. They told me I'd hear back very soon with a decision. Well, I still don't have one. I sent an email recently asking if I perhaps didn't send in all the information they need and they said I'm "being considered for the Biology program. No further action is required." They stressed that I'd hear from them soon, but that was around October 10th, so I'm not sure what their definition of "soon" is.

So, I guess I don't know what to do. I decided not to submit high school information because my grades were abysmal and I actually dropped out. Plus, I figure my college GPA and the courses I've taken (honors classes, et cetera) should speak for themselves. But now I'm doubting myself.

Should I apply to other schools? I have to admit, money is tight, and some schools around here are $50 to apply. I'm just wondering how long I should wait before giving up and applying elsewhere.

Also, when should I apply for federal student loans? I tried to sign the master promissory note but it asked what school I would be attending. Since I haven't been accepted yet, I am not sure if I should do that now.

Thank you.

Pick up the phone and call the transfer admissions office. You need to know soon, so that you can make arrangements for housing, etc. before classes start in January. But, do not be surprised if all they can give you is a “provisional admission” based on your current grades, and that your formal admission can’t be finalized for certain until your current semester ends. They get phone calls like this all the time, so it really isn’t a big deal.

As for the MPN, you should hold off on signing that until you know for certain where (and if) you will be in college in the spring. The money will be approved almost instantly, so it really is OK to wait.

Agree, call them, you have waited long enough. I don’t think not sending HS records is a problem as you have a long college record for them to assess.

Thanks to you both. The hardest part about this process has been knowing what needs to be done early, what can wait, what reasonable waiting times are, etc.

I’m going to call tomorrow. My phone has been acting up but I can borrow one then.

Thanks again!
