I have received all my decisions now and it is safe to say that I'm disappointed. I know that ORM, international and bad freshman year grades are a very troubling combination but regardless, here are my decisions:

UPenn - Reject
UChicago - Reject
Columbia - Waitlist
Dartmouth - Reject
Stanford - Reject
Cornell - Reject
University of Michigan - Accepted (Ross pre-admit reject)
NYU Stern - Waitlist

I wanted to go to a school with a great reputation and get an amazing start to an investment banking career. I know that I can maintain a high GPA (I'm predicted 44 out of 45 for IB) when I work hard, so I was wondering what you think my prospects are for IB in the following scenarios:

I graduate with an Economics degree from UM LSA

I graduate from Ross

I graduate from Stern

Thank you very much!

Looks like your best bet is to get straight A’s your freshman year in UM’s economics program and try to transfer. A waitlist is pretty much a rejection so don’t plan on getting into Stern or Columbia. Good luck.

But with straight As, I will get into Ross, so how will it be in that scenario?

If you don’t feel like chancing UM/Ross, you might look into IU/Kelley, even at this late date, to see if you can get direct admit to Kelley. Not on par with Ross or your other schools, but lots of opportunities for on-campus ib interviews both summer and full-time, and may still be possible to get direct admit to Kelley Fall 2011 with IU’s rolling admissions.

Its not that easy to get a 4.0 in college as it is in high school. Out of the 5-6k new freshmans who are enrolling at umich, maybe 10-15 will keep a 4.0 GPA after 2 years. Luckily you do not need a 4.0 to get into Ross.

Once you are in, keep the 3.5+, network well and IBanking should be within reach by summer of junior year.
