To get an MBA (master in Business administration) you do not need to study business (marketing or management) undergrad. I’ve clarified this with multiple schools. So, I’m not sure what I want to do in college but I want to study business (marketing) and art (illustration/drawing). So here are some options I’ve considered…
- Go to public school and dual degree in marketing and fine art undergrad. Then for grad school (hopefully at Mercer) go for MBA. Issue with this is that I'll probably be in school for 8 years instead of 6 which I don't want to do.
- Recommendation from a college admissions councilor. She told me I could undergrad major in fine art and minor in management or marketing and do a business related internship. Then she thinks I can get into grad school to study business with just a minor's worth of experience. Con for this - what if I don't get into grad school? It's just wasted time then.
- Go to an arts school and study Business of art and Design (at SCAD it's a masters of the arts, at MICA it's a Master of Professional Studies) this way I have art and business experience in one. Then grad school for Business. Con - I don't know how credible this degree is. Do employers of grad school admissions offices consider it on the same level as a regular degree? Also, it's a masters program so that'd be 2 extra years also.
- Go to a school where I can make my own undergrad degree as both art and business. Then grad school. Con - How credible are custom degrees?
