What other colleges should I apply to?

I live in Cincinnati, Ohio. Right now, I’m only applying to Ohio State, Indiana University, and University of Cincinnati (I was also thinking of Michigan State). My GPA is a 3.01 UW and a 3.34 W. I have a 31C on the ACT (35E 27M 36R 27S). Pretty nice mix of ECs (soccer, piano, mix of clubs, etc). Also, my essay is really good. In college, I’m looking to major in business-undecided. UC, IU, Michigan State, and Ohio State have really good business schools, which is why I chose them. My question is, where else should I apply? Should I even apply anywhere else? ($ is not a huge issue)

What about Miami of Ohio? Your GPA might be a little low for them, but your test scores should compensate. Unfortunately, the dedicated Business schools will look more at Math scores than Verbal ones, so applying “undecided” might be advantageous for you.

@woogzmama I toured Miami and didn’t like it! The campus felt cold and unwelcoming and I couldn’t see myself there. Anywhere else?

I was also thinking of applying to UPitt…

If you are interested in schools outside the Midwest, how about TCU? Good business school, and you are a match for your academic credentials.

@ColdinMinny What is TCU?

Texas Christian University

@whenhen Sorry, I’ve never heard of Texas Christian University.

I think the odds of you getting into the business programs at some of the universities you listed are rather slim, especially if your high school GPA portends your college one (usually it does according to numerous analyses). If you like Ohio State and other flagships you may want to throw in an application for universities with less selective business programs. However, you should get into MSU and Cincinnati.

Have you looked into any private universities?

You can read up on Texas Christian if you wish. I’m not terribly familiar with it.

@whenhen I really like UPitt, what do you think my chances are there? And no, I haven’t. Do you have any other college suggestions?

Any names in particular?

I would possibly look into St. Louis University. Given your Cincinnati location, you likely have a load of solid to excellent liberal arts colleges around you as well as some decently ranked medium sized universities. Perhaps take a drive over to the University of Dayton and see if you’d prefer a regional university with generally smaller classes and a smaller university or if you’d prefer a larger flagship.

@whenhen I love UD, just not sure if it has a good business program!

Ohio Wesleyan University is a very fine college.

TCU is really good at football, if you’re interested in that at all (MSU and Ohio State sharing that characteristic).

Since you seem to have a theme of large public universities in the Midwest, have you looked into Purdue or University of Toledo?

@LakeWashington Does it have a good business program?

@DetroitLeper I toured Purdue actually! Did not much care for it though :confused: and does Toledo have a good business program?

bump!

Yes, OWU does have business majors. However, keep in mind that, career wise, major companies and financial firms tend to prefer (depending on the characteristics of the job) MBA graduates, not B.S. business majors.

OWU is a competitive college and has a reputation for rigor. They work their students hard. It is a great place to be for four years but it is no cakewalk.

@LakeWashington Thanks for your help!
