what parts of orientation are required?

I signed up for freshman summer orientation and I've seen the schedule. I live in the Austin area so I'll be a commuter each day of orientation. What parts of the 2 and a half days are required attendance? Like on Day One none of the morning activities apply to me, and I've already toured the campus, so do I really need to be there before noon? And on Day Two, hardly anything in the afternoon seems necessary, so can I leave when the morning activities are over?

The things that are in bold on the schedule are the events you must attend (otherwise you can’t register for classes). Everything else is optional.

So since Check-in for Orientation from 7:30 to 9:30 is bolded, I have to do the check-in at that time as opposed to right before the Welcome/Opening Session at noon, which would be the first thing I would be interested in on Day One? I’m wondering if there’s any way to check in late that morning rather than having to be there so early.

Why don’t you call New Student Services? They could probably answer your question in like less than two minutes.

Yea, you have to go early  I think that’s their way of getting you to attend as many sessions as possible. I’m a commuter as well, and that’s what NSS told me.

gleekyboy – thanks for the suggestion. I will do that today.

Hayacostbh – thanks for the info. That’s exactly what I thought.

Orientation is a GREAT time to meet people. The first day -or week- of school can be pretty intimidating and people normally start off by falling back on their orientation friends before branching out. In this way, the events that aren’t required might end up being the most valuable.

One of the things you want to do on the first day of orientation is to have your student ID made and your UT EID upgraded. There is a line of waiting for everything so be prepared.
