What percentage of ED applications accepted?

just curious...I know ED applications were up, but I don't know if that means more were accepted.

~600 acceptances out of 2,040 applications translates to a 29.4% acceptance rate, significantly less than last year’s 36% ED acceptance rate.

The acceptance rate is lower this year, but they accepted more students than last year. Last year, the acceptance rate was 36% out of a pool of ~1500 applicants (which is about 540), but this year, they accepted 600 applicants out of a pool of 2040 applicants. They accepted more people, but the acceptance rate is significantly lower, because of the steep rise in number of applicants.

602/2040 == 29.5%

Here’s more from Duke on early decision…

[Duke Accepts 602 Early Decision Applicants](http://news.duke.edu/2009/12/early_decision.html)

713 deferred, 609 rejected, 602 accepted.

Are the Athletes in the Early Decision stats?

“713 deferred, 609 rejected, 602 accepted.”

And 713 + 609 + 602 = 2040 ???

^Some students do not complete the application, some screw up, some withdraw. But that’s the number all colleges tend to report: the number of applications RECEIVED at first.

Indeed, the colleges that love to manipulate the data and use loopholes to boost temporary statistics tend to do that. Ethical schools understand that only complete applications should be counted.

The number of applications should be reported as the total of admitted, deferred, and rejected.

oxymoronic institute…

Most schools do it. And while that is not a legitimate excuse, it’s true.

So now Duke is like “most schools”…

^What? … Was that supposed to instigate some sort of anger? -_-

Dukie no angry, Dukie happy…  :)

A few years back it was reported that Cornell automatically rejects 1,500+ apps each year for failure to check the box indicating the school to which one’s applying. The apps are still counted in the “official” admissions stats tho.

Cornell is an “ivy” in name only, which still doesn’t stop Duke from copying it…

■■■■■ alert

^ says the guy with 2 posts…

■■■■■ alert

couldn’t resist :)

I’m gonna help you Dukies keep an eye out for this “■■■■■.” You can thank me later…
