what percentage of in state students does unc accept each year?

I think it’s a little over 80%

@harambee, what’s your source? Thank you!

It’s 82%

“82 percent of each freshmen class must be from North Carolina, as dictated by state law.”

“State law requires that the percentage of students from North Carolina in each freshman class meet or exceed 82%.”

“North Carolina students compete against other students from across the state for 82 percent of all spaces available in the freshman class; out-of-state …”

Although 82% of each freshman class must be from North Carolina, the original question could be interpreted to be asking something different. i.e… Of those in-state students who apply each year, what percent of them are accepted? I think that is around 50%.

Class Profile

FALL 2010 FIRST-YEAR ADMISSIONS

23,271 applied
7,540 admitted (32% of those applying; 50% of NC applicants, 20% of others)
3,960 enrolled (53% of those admitted; 67% of NC admits, 29% of others)

My mistake. Looks like I quickly read the question, and interpreted it wrong. I think the acceptance rate is around 40% for in state, but I don’t have any real sources to back that up.
