Ah I'm currently in grade 11 and I wanted to apply to UC Berkeley but now I'm not even sure if I should...
If everything goes well, my marks should be:
Math- 90-95
Chem- 94-97
Bio- 93-95
English 90-92
French 90
Social- 76-80 -.-
My social mark sucks and the rest can't make up for it. Some gpa conversions I've seen are really lenient and some are really harsh (like 97-100 is a 4 and 93-97 is a 3.5???). The marks are in ranges because they depend on how I do on the diploma.. I've also taken the sat which was 2220 (one sitting) but it isn't astounding. So I don't know anymore.

What is your ACT/SAT score? EC’s etc. If admitted you will be full pay. Can your parents afford to pay +/- $55,000/year.

my sat is 2220 (i sort of want to retake them) and i haven’t taken my sat II’s yet D:

EC:
I’m a nationally ranked pianist (but that’s my only major award).

I’ve won a psychology award for science fair, a couple of local/provincial math awards. I’m in track (but only city awards). I volunteer 3 hours/week with disabled kids, I volunteer at the local library 1 hour/week, and 1.5 hours/week at a school, tutoring. I also teach piano (Volunteer based). I’m a timid person at school so I don’t have any leadership positions

Last summer, I worked at the movie theatre, and this summer I have an internship with the university.

Full pay is alright for my family! Thank u for ur reply ^^

I spoke to a UC Berkeley admissions rep at a university fair in Toronto about a month ago. I asked him how they calculate GPA for Ontario students. 90 and up is 4.0. I can’t quite remember the rest, but I believe an 80 is 3.0. Something in the 70s would be 2.0 or 2.5 (if it were high 70s). So, your GPA for this year would be about 3.67, assuming your social studies mark is below 80.

By “diploma”, I assume you mean IB diploma? If so, that puts another wrinkle in the calculations as your IB grade may end up being different from your percentage grades. And, you won’t find out what that is until June/July of next year.

You may wish to try the ACT + writing. It sounds like you like the sciences more. The ACT has science content where the SAT doesn’t (except for SAT II’s).

oh thank you @bouders ! nah I’m from alberta so we have a diploma, which makes up 50% of our final mark (but it’s only math and chem for me this year). And I’m taking the IB diploma. The only IB marks which will be out in time for UC berkeley admissions will be my chem mark… It just really frustrates me because no matter how hard I study for social, I’ve never gotten above 85 T.T as for the rest of my marks, do you think they would be on par?

they are OK, low 90s are kinda ubiquitous for any Canadian that is aspiring to go the US. Try to aim for 95+ as there are simply a lot of low 90s kids out there. Your SAT mark is pretty good though.

@Martin18 yah ah thats what I thought (i’m going to retake my SAT exams and hopefully get it to 2300+ because my marks are pretty much unsalvageable now)

In america, a 4.0 is an A, and in Ontario, a 4.0 is an 85+, in Alberta an A is a 90+ i think, use the website foreigncredits, search on google.

ah i know but theres so much contradicting information out there… like this thread says its more difficult to get high marks in alberta: http://www.studentawards.com/forum.aspx?g=posts&t=12232 but idrk. FInals are over I guess, so no use in worrying now -.-" @manas1997
