What private schools does Florida Prepaid cover?

Hi, sorry if this seems like a dumb question, but I'm kinda new to the whole financial aid process. Basically I talked to the customer service, and they said that Florida prepaid covers "approved" private schools at the same rate (credit per hour I guess) that it would for any Florida state school. I have the 4 year tuition and 4 year dormitory plan and will probably be charged the same amount of money for most private schools than I would be charged for Florida schools because I qualify for a lot of financial aid.

tl;dr does anyone have a list or know of the colleges that Florida prepaid approves/disapproves?

Qualifying for FA is NOT the same as actually GETTING such aid. Most schools do not meet need. Most schools do not have the much money to give away.

Anyway, it sounds like your pre-paid would provide about the same amount of tuition that UF, FSU, UCF would cost. How much is that? About $6k per year? Private tuition can be over $30k per year.

You need to go to the website of your pre-paid and see what schools are listed.

Also, you need to find out how your pre-paid affects FA. If it’s seen as a student-asset, then that could affect aid as well.

Nearly all accredited private colleges are “approved” by Florida Prepaid. You can check here to see a list.
Each year, they calculate an average dollar figure per credit hour (not as much as UF or FSU charges, but a bit higher than most of the directional state U’s charge). If you decide to enroll at an out-of-state school, your Florida Prepaid plan will give you this amount times the number of credit hours you are taking at that school (up to a limit of 15). For example, if they calculate the average at $113.27 and you take 15 credits in your first semester, Florida Prepaid will send your school $1699.05 for that semester. My son didn’t have the dorm plan, but I assume that it works the same way. There’s a special form you need to fill out and submit to the prepaid plan if you will be using your plan funds at an OOS school. http://www.itppv.com/documents/pdf/prepaid/prepaid-transfer-form.pdf

Most of the schools I’m applying to have large endowments and are able to meet financial need- they’re on this list [Colleges That Claim to Meet the Full Financial Needs of Students - US News and World Report](http://www.usnews.com/education/articles/2010/02/18/colleges-that-claim-to-meet-the-full-financial-needs-of-students) so according to most financial aid calculators, the total charge is around 9-15k a year (with 2k I get from working on campus), so this is actually pretty cheaper than going to UF or FSU without bright future’s (which I qualify for the highest one)

how does the Prepaid figure with FA? Is it considered to be a student asset?

If the student is given $10k per year from a Prepaid, then how does a CSS school use that info?

I’m pretty sure it’s considered an asset.
