I was recently nominated for National Honor Society and I am looking for service activities to list. I have walked dogs and cared for pets in my neighborhood for years, but I have been getting paid for it. Would that qualify as a service activity?
Typically, employment involves pay and service does not. You can ask your NHS advisor if they have the same distinction. If you needed to work for family financial reasons and thst left no time for service, you could ask if a waiver is possible. (I don’t know if this is even an option. )
No. Your NHS is obviously totally non selective so if this is a big struggle to find real service reflections, give it a miss.
No, if you are paid it isn’t service.
Have you volunteered at a house of worship?
Have you raised money for any charities?
Ignore Sybylla…if you want to be in NHS go ahead. There is no downside. It is sort of an acknowledgement by the school of all your hard work and parents love it.
There is no downside, that about sums up the value if there is no ability to recall any kind of service at this point in high school.

Only if they know it is of value. It is just about ticking boxes and creating a paper trail here. Kids start service in 6th grade. NHS is superfluous and unimaginative. The olds people’s gig they partner up with when my oldest went through is more luxurious than any house I lived in.
