I had a 3.8 my freshman year and then I transferred to a different university my sophomore year. Last semester was my first semester at my new university and I got a 4.0! I’m currently a second semester sophomore. Sometimes, applications and things ask for my GPA. It’s confusing as a transfer student. What is my GPA now?
Depends on what purpose.
Most colleges include only grades earned at that school for GPA calculations. So your GPA for the purpose of your current school is probably 4.0.
However, if you apply to transfer again, or to professional school (law, medical, etc.), all college courses and grades from all colleges attended (including while in high school, summer sessions, etc.) will be used for GPA calculations for those purposes (note also that valuations may differ for each; for example A- may be 3.7 or 3.67 for different purposes). Since grades will be weighted by the amount of credit in the course where the grade was earned, there is insufficient information from your post to calculate the combined GPA from the two colleges you mentioned.
At my first university, all my courses were worth 4 credits. I took a total of seven courses aside from one withdrawal which doesn’t effect my GPA. I got an A- in three of them and an A in the other four. I also took two honors level dual enrollment courses for college credit in high school each worth 3 credits. I got an A in both. Then I got in an A in all five of the courses I took last semester at my current university each worth 3 credits.
