Good question, pianoman429. Not all Kaplan books are terrible. I don’t use them with my students because I find that the questions aren’t phrased the way the CB phrases them, and for me, understanding the language of the question is half the challenge of the SAT. But hey, if the Kaplan stuff points out some useful strategies for you, it’s a useful tool.

The BB can’t be beat for the practice tests. The review material will give you every concept that you need to know but offers little in the way of strategy. They do point out some really important things, like taking an inductive approach (i.e. plugging in numbers) to math problems, but you’re not going to get “cheats” from the College Board.

Hey guys
This is my first post in a long while and I am currently a junior. So far cc has not yet reached a strong consensus on which book is the best. As far as I can tell, it most probably depends on the circumstances of the reader, thus I would like to share mine.
I have gotten about 2000ish on the actual SAT and I hope to get 2200+ on the may one. I have a junior gpa of about 4.4 at a top 50 school, so clearly test-taking is the issue not my own capability/intelligence.
My main concern is CR but I would like to improve on everything. I am looking for a book with great strategies that provides the quickest results (assuming great dedication and diligence). So which books can give me the best improvements to reach a 2200+ level??? RR? B 2400? As for vocab, which compiled list of flashcards is the best???
I can buy multiple but one book would be preferred, but cost is still no issue…
Also, would a certain SAT prep course be recommended at this point in time?? (considering revolution prep - 250 pt increase guarantee…)

-I have been ghosting around CC for a while, so thanks a lot contributors!

I used up all of the BB2 and Cracking the SAT from PR. What book should i buy next? My goal is mid 2100s to 2200. I can’t afford the online course from CBso yeah I need other resources for practice.

I currently have Barron’s 2400 and McGraw Hill 2008. I’ve also taken the lone online practice test that CB offers and I got less than what I wanted. Can somebody on this site tell me what those 2 books above teach best, and what I need to seek elsewhere so I know what to study? Thanks.
Side Note: I struggle most with CR and least with Writing, but I’d like improvement in all areas.

I have a 2250 (680 CR, 770 Math, 800 Writing) and since I only got one wrong on math/perfect scored the writing, I really just desperately need to bring up critical reading. I’ve only taken the SAT once, and plan on taking it again next fall so I have the whole summer to study. Best CR books that could bring me up to the 700s?

For the Gruber’s math workbook, should I get “Gruber’s Complete SAT Guide 2010” or “Gruber’s Complete SAT Math Workbook” or “Gruber’s Complete SAT Guide 2011”?

I’ve seen Gruber’s recommended many times, and want to know which book is best for improving Math only. I have other books for the rest of the SAT. Is the Math workbook more indept than the complete guides?

Also, the only Rocket Review books I can find are from 2005/06. Is that the latest they were printed? Are they new enough to be useful and effective?

I would like to know what books are best for CR/math questions. I had Kaplan private tutoring but did not find it helpful at all…my score increased only by 10 points on CR. Also, I’ve been hearing stuff about “AcetheSAT” and other things claiming to have good SAT cheats. Has anyone ever tried something like that?

Hey, I go to a British school and am applying to the USA. For that reason, I’ve been busy with British exams and have left the SATs to my senior year. I’m taking them in October and have just over 3 months to prepare.

I’ve researched prep-guides and have narrowed it down to:

McGraw Hill’s SAT 2011 Edition
Gruber’s Complete SAT Guide 2010

I am also buying the official Collegeboard SAT Study Guide so I will have enough practice tests - I just want to focus on theory, strategy and speed.

My math is generally weak but my critical reading/writing is strong. Not familiar with the essay writing technique needed either.

So taking all of this into account - what would all of you recommend? McGraw Hill or Gruber’s? Or even something completely different?

I know I have the potential to score high marks, I just need the content to help me get there!
Any help would be appreciated, I’m desperate! Thank you!
