What school should I apply to for Virginia Tech, UVA, and William and Mary?

I’m a senior currently applying to colleges. I’m a female and Indian and I live in Northern Virginia and am mostly applying to instate schools.

Stats:
4.47 weighted GPA
Superscore of 1460 on the SAT (790 on math and 670 on reading) (might change I took it again last weekend but idk bc these sat curves be wildin) (1440 without superscore)
My class rank is 24 out of 507 (top 5%).

Extracurriculars:
Working at Kumon from 10th-11th grade
Officer of Future Business Leaders of America (won 3 awards from this club)
Officer of Pre-Professional Health Honors Society
Officer of Psychology Club (12th grade)
Member of National Honors Society (11th+12th grade)
Member of Mu Alpha Theta (math honors society from 10th-12 grade)
Member of Global Ambassadors and Girls Who Code in 10th grade
Volunteer for a local campaign (12th grade)
Playing piano since 2nd grade (on and off but throughout high school I’ve just been playing in my free time)

AP and Dual Enrollment classes:
AP World History (score of 4 on AP Exam)
AP Chemistry DE (didn’t take exam since DE usually gives college credit for instate as long as you pass the class)
AP Calculus AB (score 5),
AP Psychology (score 5),
AP Lang (score 3)
DE Physics

This year I’m taking AP Calculus BC, AP Computer Science A, AP Statistics, and DE English 12.

I was wondering if based on these stats and extracurriculars, would I be able to get into Virginia Tech for Engineering? I would love to major in Computer Science at VTech, but I realize that I haven’t participated in many engineering or comp sci related activities and I don’t know if that would stop me from getting in as it’s harder to get into VTech for Engineering as it is and being from nova might make it harder too. If so my other plan was to apply to the college of sciences at Tech and do Applied and Computational Mathematics. I love math and majoring in it would be great, I just think doing comp science might have better job prospects in the future. So if I were to apply to the college of sciences and get in and wanted to switch to the college of engineering later would it be too difficult to switch? What would be the best way to apply? Along with that I was wondering what my chances of getting into UVA for its college of Engineering for comp science are, again I have the same concern about not having enough engineering and comp science related extracurriculars. Would I have a better chance of getting into UVA’s College of Arts and Sciences and majoring in Computer Science from there? The last college that I was wondering about is William and Mary, I’m going to apply for computer science there as well, if I don’t decide to apply for comp science, I might apply to Computational & Applied Mathematics & Statistics. I’m applying to more colleges of course, but I’m mainly concerned about these as they’re my target/low reach instate schools. What are my chances of getting into these colleges and what school within them would be the best to apply to? Sorry this is so long! I’d really appreciate any response or advice!!

Hi, I’m not with VT or anything but thought you’d like a response. I do have 2 kids who applied VT and now 3rd. You have stellar qualifications - like my daughter who is now studying Computational Science at Harvard grad. You’re correct about the great opportunities in CS - she got just what she wanted for her offer. Good luck and good job on the high marks! You’ll be fine.

Since you are in state, you should be competitive for all of these schools. VT historically has the higher acceptance rate of the 3 and it should remain the same, but it is expected that VT will be more selective this year since they were over enrolled last year. I still think you can count VT as a likely match. My S19 was accepted (in-state) to VT and UVA for engineering last year with similar scores and gpa (?), with only 1 real STEM focused EC. He didn’t apply to W&M. What is your unweighted gpa?

I would say that you have a good chance for either VT or UVA. Both programs are good, but I would rank VT higher for a couple reasons (mostly to do with what is available at VT and not UVA).

Have you looked into the Computational Modeling and Data Analytics program at VT? This is a new-ish program and kind of hits on that spot between CS and math. My kid is double majoring CS (Eng)/CMDA at VT and they are really enjoying it! I think CMDA is in the math dept. (I don’t believe they offer CMDA at UVA)

Good luck!
