I have two college students who are very discouraged about online classes. The format does not work well for them. They are both excellent students. They are thinking of transferring to schools that are conducting in person classes. If your student’s school has mostly in person classes, could you please list it here? Not really looking for a discussion. Just options.
I think it also depends on the Major/class . My son at RIT has 4/5 classes that meet once a week in class. (the rest of the class meets another day). He has one async online. There are other schools such as Purdue that has in person classes that I know of, and some of the LAC’s. It would help if we knew what major, if there are budget issues, and what part of the country they would like to stick to.
We were just looking for college names at this point and will be doing that level of scrutiny over here on our end.
Tulane is on campus with a mix of in person and online classes, it’s up to the instructor. My D19 has all 5 classes in person with an option of doing online for three of them.
Son is at Georgia Tech. They have a mix. One of his classes is online. The rest are hybrid so he’s been getting some classroom time. It seems like most/all of the CS classes are online. Overall, I think they’re doing as well as can be expected. They had their spike and seemed to have recovered.
I’m hopeful that they will finish out the semester and be back in January. I think they’re going to give it a 110% to get through the year with at least some in-person classes.
Purdue. My D has 80% of her courses in person. Only one is fully online. She’s a junior. The university is planning to be fully in person for Spring semester.
UofSC has a pretty good percentage either f2f or hybrid - I know in at least the college where my friend teaches they wanted a good selection of in person options.
I think most colleges that are currently online are sharing their January plans in November.
Elon U mostly in person, if I had to put a number on it I would also say 80% for my son
Susquehanna D has 3 out of 4 classes in person. Quinnipiac S has 4 out of 5 in person.
My Cornell DD (sophomore) has 4 of 5 classes in person.
Hamilton College has all years back this semester and, as of now, spring semester. My son has 3 out of 4 classes face to face.
Brandeis
There is 4,000 colleges in the US. I can’t see how a list with no filters can be useful.
I have one class period in person at Purdue, that is the class meets 3 days a week and I’m allowed to attend in person lecture one of those days. The rest of my classes are all online.
this is great. Keep them coming. I’m still somewhat baffled about why some schools have classes in person and some have none. And, weirdly enough, most of the schools I’ve heard of who have a majority of classes in person are not testing everyone multiple times per week. The exception is Hamilton. Testing everyone twice a week and classes in person.
@momofsenior1 Where did you hear that Purdue would be fully in person spring semester? I haven’t seen that announcement so am curious.
@coastereng - Our parent FB posted an article when the spring break cancellation was announced. I can’t seem to find it though
Colgate has a mix of in person and hybrid. My daughter has 3 in person and 1 online. They are randomly testing 6% of all staff and students every week and monitoring waste water. As of right now, 0 cases and 0 in isolation/quarantine.
@coastereng - I went back through the parent posts and the information was released by Purdue Family Connections along with the updated spring schedule. I can’t post a link to FB but it reads: “The Spring semester is planned as a typical residential semester.”
It goes on to say that students will still have the option to do fully on line from home if they don’t want to return to campus.
