I am considering transferring for the fall 2018 semester. I am currently a sophomore, Mathematical Economics major. My college GPA is a 3.73, my major GPA is a 3.92. I have a lot of great ECs, many student gov positions, done research, run a club, had two internships etc. My high school GPA was a 4.1 and I got a 33 on the ACT. The only thing that is not in my favor is that I have withdrawn from two classes, both for health reasons, but I know that two Ws do not look good.
I am thinking of transferring from my current school because it is rural so I would like to be close to a city at a school with a lot to do. Right now, I am thinking of UPenn and WUSTL, but would really like to hear everyone’s thoughts and suggestions.
Before any school names are thrown on here, are you at a four-year institution? If so, why do you want to transfer?
If aid is of any importance to you, I suggest that for every school you consider, you run their net price calculator to see an estimate of what kind of aid you’re looking at.
If your withdrawals can be explained, then you’re totally fine.
I am at a 4 year lac. I’m not going to get any need based aid so it doesn’t really matter. I just want to transfer because the school I go to is really rural and all the activities the school offers on weekends is frat parties. I am getting bored with the lack of activities and the rural location so I am thinking of transferring. I may not transfer because I do like my current college but I do want to look into my potential transfer options.
While I understand the want for a more urban setting, just know that Greek Life is, to a degree, inescapable. Frat parties are always going to around.
In any event, your stats open doors to a lot of possibilities! Just know that UPenn (as well as the other Ivy Leagues / hyper-selective schools) are a crapshoot, no matter how competitive of a transfer applicant you are.
Keep in mind, if you want to work at a firm, job placement is usually based on region.
I recommend you look at Georgia Tech, NYU, UMichigan, maybe Northwestern.
@TransferStalker Thank you!! And to clarify, I have no issue with frat parties or greek life, it is just all that is available at my school and there are no opportunities to get off campus as it is so rural. I would just like more options.
