I have been attending my new college for only just a few weeks, but there are deadlines coming up for the scholarships that I want to apply for. My previous college all the professors were too bus y to help out with referrals at all. So they would really be no help. Any suggestions?
Offer to write the letter for your old professor(s), with the understanding that they get to edit it however they want afterwards. Very common in academia. I do this all the time; the professors are always grateful for the offer.
Thank You for the great advice!!
You could ask your adviser. My daughter is at the same school but needed a reference from a STEM prof. She asked her physics prof (from last year) and he said no, that she should ask a prof she’s had for more than one class (hasn’t had any for 2 classes) or her adviser. The adviser will probably need a resume and transcript, but the letter is still going to be very generic.
The scholarship committee has to understand that freshmen or transfers are not going to have had time to build a relationship with any professors yet.
