I am in ninth grade right now but I feel like I’ve already ruined my chances of getting into UCLA. First off I don’t play any sports, I got 2 B+'s in Spanish 1 (I took it in eighth grade), and got a C in my first semester of Spanish 2.
GPA (first semester 9th grade) : 3.8 (weighted)
GPA Unweighted: 3.6
GPA (second semester): 4.1
Ranking: N/A
EC’s (for now):
tutor kids at an elementary school for 2 hours a week
Volunteer at my local hospital 4 hours a week
Clubs:
Bridge
Key Club
(no leadership positions yet)
Classes for 10th Grade:
Chemistry
Algebra 2
Aerobics
English Honors 2
Spanish 3
Piano
AP Chemistry
Please list any suggestions of what I should do to get in!
Also since I don’t play any sports, I was told that UCLA might not accept me is this true?
No no, you haven’t ruined your chances of getting in. You’ve got 3 more years to cover up. The UCs do take into consideration 9th grade scores but do not add them in the GPA! UCLA is one of the most applied to colleges in the world and to stand out, you need great ECs and test scores. I suggest you start off with some sport, increase on your community service, keep your GPA up (try to get it above a 3.75) and get an ACT/SAT score of 30+/2050+.
All of that will strengthen your profile alot. Hope this helps. Best of luck.
Thank you! I will definitely take in what you said
Start on sport like soccer, basketball, or football. Do what you love basically. Reach out to the community and prepare for the ACT as early as possible.
You will be fine ! Just strive for 4.0 and above throughout you’re other years and strive for high sat and act scores
