What should I do to prepare for the PSAT/SAT?

Different people will recommend different things. I stole that idea from a subreddit that helped students get perfect scores. Granted, it was from when the SAT was harder, prechange, when scores in the 1500s were rare and perfect scores made news.

You don’t need to spend a penny to take a practice ACT. Just print off a free one from ACT’s website, and take it under timed conditions at home. Know that it’s easy to bring up the science grade by doing practice sections, since it’s just data interpretation.

In general, it is felt that the ACT English sections are easier than the SAT’s, and that the ACT is not as good for people who have trouble focusing. I’d say that if you do much better on the ACT practice test than on an SAT practice test, just focus on prepping for the ACT.

The only thing the PSAT is used for is National Merit, so if you are totally out of the running for that, and do better on the ACT practice test, maybe you should just focus on that.

There’s also a lot of older released PSAT’s. It doesn’t hurt to start with those. Practice tests are an important part of your study plan, but don’t forget to make sure you know all of the material that is going to be tested.

I was told by someone that the PSAT should be given without prep so you can get your baseline score and that will tell you how much prep you need for SAT. Is that accurate?

If you are hoping to be a National Merit Finalist in search of big merit scholarships, that would be bad advice. There are colleges that will offer full rides and full tuition for NM.

I found a cool tool for preparing SAT, it’s called PerfectScore.
You could customize the questions based on your weakness or let AI help you figure out what is your weakness.
It helped me a lot when I was preparing for SAT. I hope it is also helpful for you too

Would those of you veterans be willing to share your suggestions? Classes, books, online? I did just notice that Khan Academy has partnered with the College Board to offer test prep, individualized and customized. I’m thinking Cindy will have some feedback on this approach. (BTW, have you seen how far they have come in their course offerings? Amazing! So appreciate Sal and his team!)

Thanks everyone!
