hi I'm a high school sophomore that is planning to apply to the USNA. My school offers both IB and AP but I don't know which program I should apply to. I've been hearing a bunch of different things about admissions and I don't know if USNA recognizes IB or not. If I do AP, I'll be doing NJROTC along with Naval Sea Cadets. Please help!

The Academy recognizes and accepts IB exam scores, but just like the AP the score needs to be the highest possible. Even then, the Academy offers a ton of validation tests during plebe summer, and even if you haven’t taken IB or AP courses in a certain topic but believe you know the material and if you can convince the department that you do, they will make a validation exam for you to take. It is based more on subjects rather than what tests, some subjects like Chemistry they will want you to validate through their own test rather than AP or IB because they have a specific curriculum they want to teach you and wants to make sure you know those points for sure. Hope this helps. And also, NJROTC and Naval Sea Cadets will look very good on your application, you should definitely take those opportunities.

Thank you so much, I’ll try my best to get high AP scores :D
