So I applied for the Dec. 1 scholarship deadline. I turned in everything before the deadline day, or so I thought. I went to submit my payment, and everything went through. Turns out, I forgot the "signature" section of the common app, forgetting that it needed to be submitted separately and did not realize my application was incomplete until after midnight. I plan to call tomorrow, but is this a lost cause?

Have you now completed the application?

Calling is fine, but also be sure to contact USC in a way that provides you documentation. Email your admissions counselor with all of the information - stick to the facts and provide a brief, clear explanation rather than making an emotional plea. Include your USC ID number.

I would also print out a letter and FAX it in as well. Again, brief, to the point, and factual is best.

Good luck!

Yes, I submitted the missing part at 2 AM, when I decided to go on commonapp and check my application. Is there a number I can call as well? The one I tried (213) 741 1111 just led me to some ****ed off guy in Illinois…and the counselors phones aren’t taking calls (as they shouldn’t be anyway). Thanks!

also- where would I go about finding my USC ID number? I didn’t get any emails from them, which worries me because it might mean that I’m not being considered.

“also- where would I go about finding my USC ID number?”
you get it about a week later. they send an email confirming that they have received your app + supplement.

okay- thanks for that info. They seem to be understanding about technical problems and even extended the deadline to 12/5 for power outage areas, so I’m hoping they can bend a bit with part of my application being an hour late by mistake.

I work as a student assistant in one of the offices (graduate, not undergraduate though) and we had a lot of problems with people not being able to submit on time because the massive windstorm knocked a lot of power out. They seem to be pretty lenient about it so I think you’re okay.

The admissions counselor just got back to me, he would make a note in my file so it would still be considered for scholarship. I am so relieved!!

Great to hear that you got good news!

For students who do not yet have their USC ID#, include your name as it is on your application and your birth date, and they will be able to match things up.
