What should I do?

Hi guys. For those of you who've seen my numerous EC threads around here, you'll know that I'm president of my school's debate team. The team didn't really compete last year; I was elected pres after we did some local tournaments, but we didn't do anything too serious. This year, however, we intended to compete seriously, but the principal says he'll only allow one overnight trip. The problem is, all of the tournaments are 2-3 hours away from the school, and the tourneys typically last until about 11 PM. Since we can't stay overnight, we'll have to drive back, sleep for 4-5 hours, and go back at 7:30 the next morning if we advance to the next round. Now, doing this is pretty unrealistic, so in essence, we can only go to one tournament.

Is there any way for me to bypass the principal's restriction? Should I go to the superintendent or something? Any thoughts?

Thanks. (PS, please disregard any errors in this post. I'm typing this on a very horrible laptop in school, so the keyboard isn't the best.)

He probably means the school can only fund one overnight. Ask if you can fundraise, or find out if the other members would be willing to pay for their own hotel rooms at the competitions.

No, he’s said he won’t “approve” more than one. The funding isn’t an issue; we’re fundraising already and have gotten a sizable amount of money. We can attend at least three, if not four, tournaments.

I would just respectfully ask him what the issue is, if it isn’t money. It makes no sense.

I’ll be sure to do that tomorrow.
