I attended college for a semester and a half of general studies, only passing one class. Can I go to another college without telling about the first college?
No. There is a National clearing house that has a record of any colleges you have attended so lying will get you no where. If found out, you could be rescinded at the college or if you earned a degree, it could be taken away. Not worth the risk.
Ok so will i still be on academic probation even if i transfer
You have to be in good standing at your original college to even consider transferring to another school, so you will need to figure out how to get off academic probation first.
Are you talking about community college (going from one to another) or are you talking about going from one university to another?
First and foremost, don’t lie. You can’t get away from your academic past. However, there are ways to improve the situation depending on the specifics.
With that said, you should be able to start school at another community college while on academic probation, but you’d still need to resolve the issues at your original school. Without them being cleared up, they won’t release your transcripts and you can’t transfer to a UC.
It might make sense to just stay where you’re at. Look into retaking the failed classes and/or using academic renewal. It’s not too late to turn your situation around. Talk with an academic advisor and see what your best options are for getting off of academic probation and then cleaning up your transcript.
I havent been there in 7 years and they wont give me Financial aid Until i pass the classes i fail with i cant afford being between jobs. And yes its a community college to another community college
If it’s been 7 years try to ask for academic renewal. Trying to lie isn’t going to help you in any way. It will end up always being on the back of your mind because if they find out they can take away your degree, rescind your acceptance, etc… If you’re already at a new cc transfer your grades from your old cc (the bad grades) to your new one and try to talk to a counselor about academic renewal. That would be your best choice tbh.
@blueandsilver @Gumbymom i may be wrong but in terms of uc transfers I think they only care about being in good academic standing at the last community college you’re at or if you previously attended a UC. I don’t think they care about academic standing at other colleges; otherwise a lot of people could not get in, having flunked out years ago.
Check with the UC, but I’m almost 100% sure about this.
@Ohm888 If you’re not in good academic standing, will they release transcripts?
@briank82 i can answer that yes they do just got mine
I just talked to college 2 they dont even what transcripts if i have no credits. Remember i only passed one general class so basically im starting fresh
FWIW, here is what it says re: transfers at UCSC. It doesn’t mention grades from previous colleges:
"Maintain good standing at your last school.
A student is in good standing if the grade point average is at least 2.0 and the official transcript does not indicate dismissal, probation, or other restrictions. A student who has outstanding financial obligations to another institution is not considered to be in good standing."
You have to be in “good standing” at you last school, but you have to report and send transcripts from ALL schools. So even if you have a 4.0 and your current school, but flunked out of ABC College 10 years ago, you have to submit transcripts from ABC college.
If you took a semester and a half worth of classes, barring any sort of crazy fluke or crack in the system, you have a semester and a half worth of classes on your transcripts with some sort of W (withdrawal), I (incomplete), NP (no pass), F, or whatever grade you got.
If you take 5 classes and fail all 5 classes, your transcript would show 5 failed classes. If you take 6 classes and failed 5 but passed 1, your transcript would show 5 failed classes and whatever grade you received in the 6th class. I’m not sure what the school told you, but “starting fresh” doesn’t happen. Your previous coursework and transcripts stay with you and when you apply to a UC, you will be required to report those grades and supply official transcripts from that school.
I had a similar situation with a slightly longer gap in between. Go to the same school, if you’re living in the same area, and start retaking things that fit into your current plan. After a semester or two get academic renewal on anything you don’t plan on retaking. If you must start at a different school, just send your transcripts over and start fixing things. You have to send in transcripts from any school you attend, if you don’t there is a good chance they’ll still end up with them and that would be far worse for you.
I had maybe a 1.0 after my first three semesters in my first attempt at school. I brought it up to a 3.78 by the time I applied to transfer. I put every single bad grade on my application. A few I listed as academic renewal, but the retakes I still put in the original F. Starting UCLA in the fall.
I forgot to mention financial aid, I never had any the first go around. I was able to petition to get it when I restarted. The gap years with a decent statement was enough to convince them to give me aid.
