So I’ve been thinking about what to major in at BYU (and also maybe as a career), and I’m just wanting some 3rd party advice, so I just want to say what I’m interested in (and not) as far as academically, personally (hobbies), and as a career.
So to save time on what type of person I am, and since I fit perfectly into this group, my MBTI results (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) is ISTJ. So if you don’t know what that is, here’s a link: http://www.personalitypage.com/ISTJ.html. Basically, I’m introverted and like learning/observing.
Some of my personal interests:
-Math/logic (some–probably maxing out at Calc 1 or 2)
-Spanish (I plan on minoring in Spanish since I’m already an intermediate Spanish speaker)
-Some psychology (recently got a bit interested in subjects such as behavioral economics and self-control)
-Tutoring (although I’m much more of a one-on-one guy instead of a teacher)
I’m not sure, though, that I would make a great psychologist mainly because I do have a hard time connecting to others emotionally (which brings me back to the ISTJ type).
As for a career, the best possible career conditions would include:
-reasonable salary ($50,000+/yr)
-mostly inside work with opportunities to go outside and occasionally out of country for about a week out of the month
-not having to be super personable but also not shutting myself out from working with others (and maybe also opportunities to use my Spanish–just don’t want to be a salesman or anything)
-makes me think or at least use my own brain (I can’t handle jobs where I’m told exactly what to do and exactly what to say).
-not more than 40 hrs/week (got to have time for a family and stuff!)
-not too mundane or repetitive like working at a bank or furniture company (sorry if I offended anyone by saying that).
So any suggestions?
Thanks
