What should I major in? Different from most cases.

Ok, so here's the deal. I like the environmental field and social business/entrepreneurship (business that is largely focused on helping people and making a difference, rather than just profits). I got accepted to Cal Poly Pomona during the fall and originally signed up as an environmental biology major. Back at my community college, I took various biology classes (mainly introductory) and liked them, but once I started to get into the upper division classes, I began to not like the biology classes so much, because I felt like they sucked out the spiritual quality I see in life (this might sound ridiculous, but the best example I can give of this is Avatar: how the natiri people saw the magical qualities in that sacred tree, but the scientist just wanted to dissect it and see what was going on with it biologically). Now, I know that dissecting things is necessary many times, but seeing life in the scientific molecular/mechanical way is not really how I like to see it on a day to day standpoint.

Note: It was tough figuring out that you're not too enthusiastic about the upper division courses in your major, right before you get your AA and are about to graduate/transfer. In a sense that I might have to make the jump into a whole new major, without actually really experiencing the classes.

Anyways, Im starting to see that biology is starting to embrace some of the emotional qualities of life: example: a dolphin saving a life, a dog sad when its companion dog friend dies, etc. I would like to talk the environmental biology major because it would give me a new perspective on life, a perspective maybe I can use and that will make me a more balanced individual or whatever (balanced scientific and spiritual perspective on life), but I found out that It'll probably take me 2 1/2 to 3 years to get the degree done.

Now, I would like the end result of having a BS in environmental biology, because it would give me more credibility in the biology field and maybe it would allow me to help put a more philosophical perspective on science, but Im just not sure if 3 years to go through hard science classes, some of which I probably really wont like is worth it.

I think it would be sweet to be an authority in the biology field, but 3 years of upper division biology classes really concerns me. Ive thought about getting a bio degree at a religious school which isnt super hard core, but rather believes in god in general, but then I'd probably have to wait even longer to get my degree and Im getting to that age where I just need to get it done. Plus CPP is near my house so it would help me out financially.

Ok, now that you know a little about me, heres my questions:

Is there any school anyone know's about that they think would have a biology program which is a better fit? (Such as more liberal arts/non denominational religious school).

Do you think it would even be worth it to do a degree like this (in the question above)? I mean, I've been reading about biology bachelors degree majors not having great job prospects and what not. Maybe I should save this for a possible future master's goal instead?

Should I just major in something like business instead? I like it, and It'll probably give me a variety of directions to go after I get the degree, especially if I get various certificates or whatever.

Thank you for your input and spending your time reading my long post.
