What should I major in?

Hey everyone, I'm new here and just seek some advice. I'm so stressed right now because I don't know what I should major in. I'm starting college this fall and I need to know before then. At first I decided to major in biochemistry since that fulfills most pre-med requirements as my ultimate goal is to become a psychiatrist and you need medical school for that. But now I'm not so sure that I want to be a psychiatrist anymore. I don't see myself in an office all day . The idea of being able to help people with mental illnesses is intriguing but it just doesn't feel right. So I thought I could mix it up by aiming for forensic psychiatry but again I just don't want to get bored of it. So then I thought of forensic pathology (autopsies) and that feels somewhat good but it's still not stable enough. A job that sounds really great for me is something in the film industry. A director, a film editor, a producer! But those jobs seem nearly impossible to get. A film editor seems much more possible but I have no experience and in a job in such a field, experience is highly crucial in landing jobs. I don't know if I can afford all the small jobs that I would have to go through to build up a portfolio before becoming a full credited film editor. I'm just so confused. I don't know what I should do. Bottom line is, I just don't want to get bored with my job and regret taking a certain career path. If you already know what you want to major in, please let me know how you decided and how you knew that it was the right path for you. I really just need to sort all this out before I can even begin setting out an academic plan to follow. I'm just so confused and lost right now. Thanks in advance.

The first thing to realize is that you DO NOT need to know what your major is by the time you start. The first year or so is usually mostly general education courses and you have time to explore and decide what will be best for you. Some students even change majors as Juniors. Just concentrate on doing well in your courses and learning about different majors form your fellow students and the faculty at the university.

Also remember that if you want to go to medical school, you do not have to major in biology or any science major for that matter. You can be a film major that just fulfills the pre-med requirements.
