I am really lost with choosing what I want to major in.
I really like learning about animals and the environment as well as working with people and moving around. I honestly think I would hate working at a desk all day. I had thought I wanted to go into architecture but I have an internship right now at a firm and I really am not enjoying it.
I also love learning about the different cultures around the world but I am not really sure what I could do with that.
All in all the biggest thing is the work environment. I really would like to have a lot of interactions with a lot of people daily and not be confined to one area.
Well, first of all, remember that your major (with the possible exception of some pre-professional ones) doesn’t necessarily determine your work environment. Your job does that, and jobs don’t necessarily lead easily from majors. I have a co-worker who was a computer science major and whose job is pretty much to network, meet people, attend conferences and evangelize our products to other people. I was a psychology major and entire days can go by when I don’t talk to anyone, which is great for me It all depends on the job you get.
You can follow your interests while also learning practical skills. Anthropology is the first major that comes to mind for someone who is interested in different cultures around the world. My company and others in the field (technology) hires anthropologists to do ethnographic and cultural research into how people use technology so we can plan future projects. There are NGOs, nonprofits, think tanks, government agencies and other private companies that would hire an anthropology major to do any number of other things.
Other majors that sound like they might interest you are environmental science/studies (the science is usually more the biology, chemistry, and physics of the environment; the studies is usually how people interact with the environment, but there’s definitely overlap), geography, political science, and sociology. Perhaps economics or psychology as well.
