i am a rising 9th grader, and my school doesnt offer any ap classes to freshman because it is considered middle school. I was wondering what ap self studies i could take to make it seem like i did not slack of 1st yr of high schools, i want something on the medium lvl and i want something in the sciences, histories, of maths

You are NOT going to look like you slack off your 1st year of high school if you don't take APs. The majority of 9th graders across the nation don't take APs that year, so it's fine. Freshmen should enter high school with the least stress possible. If you want to show you are studious, you could take honors classes.

If you REALLY don't believe me (which is dumb and means you will stress yourself too early too quickly), a medium lvl AP is AP science is AP Chemistry (Psych is the easiest), AP history is Euro History (World is the easiest), and AP math is AP Statistics/ AB Calc.

Seconding stupak's comment, you're not going to look like you slacked off if you don't take APs. Your school probably has honors classes that you can take which would be the smarter option. Some AP classes actually require you to be at that level (ie maths.. what are you going to be in? calc freshman year?) and others require a lot of memorizing (ie history) and writing skills (I don't know how well you may write a dbq but I can't imagine how poorly I would have if I did in 9th grade).

Trust me, you don't need to take AP's your freshman year. No one I know of (personally at least) has, and some have gotten into pretty good schools. Take honors classes; that should be enough. Even sophomore year, you don't really need to take more than one or two AP tests.

What classes are you taking? If you really feel you must take an AP test, take one in a subject you're already taking, even if it's not an AP class. For example, if you're going to be in a chemistry class, self-study for the AP Chem test.

Like everyone here, I agree that you really DON'T need to take APs your freshman year. Trying to do so won't make you look any better when you do start applying for colleges three years down the line - trust me. The idea is to take the AP classes in high school with the intention of taking the test...you have to work up to that level of study. Not only that, you'd be spending a lot of money when you could put it elsewhere.

Not only that, but many schools get picky about accepting AP credits. You may make a 5 on the AP Biology test, but if a school you would like to go to doesn't believe that the AP test encompasses what they teach in a college freshman biology class, you'll get no credit for it - it will mean nothing.

If you're looking to get ahead, ask about taking dual-credit courses over the summer. As long as the school is accredited, most schools will have to accept it as transfer college credit. And then you'll really get to see what college level work is like - nothing even remotely slackerish about that!

Don't forget to enjoy yourself, too. You don't have to work work work all the time to be the best student. Many times the best, non-slacker students are people who are really involved in one activity or cause they're passionate about.

thanks everyone. I looked at college board and i figured that i probably need some class experience before i ca take the ones i want to take anyways. I guess il stick to honors classes this year and start taking them next year. I probably shouldnt be worring about all this and im probably the only freshman in my city to be a member of this site, so wateva.
