I graduated from high school in 2011 with a 3.0 GPA. I attended the fall semester right after but did very poorly. I am just know starting my basic fundamental classes again at my local community college in Maryland. I have been awarded financial aid. I was looking for a new start & I have been wanting to move to california for awhile even in high school. So I recently began to search for community colleges in california with my major marketing, I really want to get into advertisement. I did a little research & found Santa Monica College to a really good jr college. I am looking at tuition and fafsa see If i would able to awarded. I would really love to go RIGHT NOW! But I started thinking would I be able to take my basic math & english at my local school it would be cheaper & free! and be able to take intro to marketing and advertisement for less. Then apply to to Santa Monica a new enviroment & focused :) I see different university with advertisement/public relations majors like University of Southern California, San Diego State University are there any more university im not seeing? Any advice? Santa Monica i just need to have college level reading and math to transfer. I would be finished all my basic classes by then end of summer 2013. I just don't have anyone to tal to about this sorry about all the questions

Even I decide I don;t wanna go to a university in the state of California & go somewhere else. I really just don’t think there’s anything in Maryland for me. I know my fundamental classes arent transferable but my college level reading and math and intro to marketing and advertisement will be. Advice please? Is a year a good time to find a job there and me to save my money and look into loans and fafsa other things just some advice I really don’t even know where to start

Can you afford the out-of-state tuition with the California colleges? It takes 2 years to gain residency and it is not simple or guaranteed.

Cost of living is tough in California, how will you support yourself out here?

USC and SDSU and colleges like that are very tough to get into. Privates like USC probably need about a 3.7 for transfer. SDSU is really tough for OOS students because all the CSUs are mandated to take California community college students first (and that goes by how many units–so if you have a bunch of OOS units then you are still considered OOS).

I would suggest finishing your degree in Maryland and move to CA after graduation. You will be able to get a better job out in CA with a degree. You can always go to grad school in CA.

Work hard on your English writing skills in the meantime and try also to get work or internships in Maryland to build up your work resume while still in college.

I see I was planned on looking for jobs before I actually decided to go & if I would be eligible for financial aid before I do anything
