I'm attending an information session tonight in which I will have the chance to speak with regional admissions officers from some schools I am VERY interested in attending. Any ideas for questions I could ask them? Is it important to try and keep in contact with any of them?

@KiaraInNYC well the question was more along the lines of what kind of questions are appropriate to ask an admissions officer vs. a student vs. a school counselor, i was wondering what kind of things they would and wouldn’t be knowledgeable about/able to answer

Most Admissions Directors are alumni of school they are working for, so you can ask: What were your favorite classes and extracurricular activities when you attended? What is your fondest memory of the school when you were a freshman? If you’re lucky the AO will mention something that you might be interested in as well, and it will give you common ground for a productive discussion that highlights why their school would be a good fit for you.

Remember, most information sessions are to sell you on applying to the school, not for you to sell yourself to the admissions director. Make contact, sign in, get that demonstrated interest chit if the school uses it, but don’t become so annoying the AD remembers you in the wrong way.

Good questions are about potential areas of study, internships, semester abroad, life on campus, pre-professional advising, how successful they are at getting kids into grad/law/med school, Greek life, the surrounding area and what there is to do, food on campus, overnight visits, travel to and from the campus to home, etc.
