I found a great rug on sale and I was wondering if I should get the 5x8 or something bigger, like 8x10. (For a single in Balch) Any suggestions?

Don't know about the rug size, but my D has a single in Balch (5th floor). She's been wondering about the room details/configuration as well...

Check out carpet tile from flor.com. Flor is a subsidiary of Interface. It comes in squares that attach together at the corners, and you can reconfigure and modify the size as necessary. Really cool stuff. They even have a license deal for a Martha Stewart line.

I checked out the website and they do look really nice, but the 8x10 I found is half price for $200, and the same size in the tiles would be more than $350. The 5x7 in the same rug I like is also on sale for around $120, so I think one of these 2 will work. I really think I would rather get the 8x10, because it might make the room more cozy. Has anyone put an 8x10 in a Balch single?? And does anyone know what color the carpet is that's already in the room?

That should be fine for Balch. Don't get anything bigger (specially since you don't really know if you got one of the bigger singles in Balch or the smaller ones). If it's too big, it gets to be a pain to manage. If possible, I'd recommend getting the rug after you see your room though so you'll have a better idea of what to get.

Agree with doglvr88 - wait until you see the room. My biggest mistake was getting too many organizers, etc. that just didn't fit my room and had too many returns. You can go to Lowe's in Ithaca - they have a fantastic selection of area rugs.

Thanks for the advice everyone!
