What STATE is everybody from? Roll Call!

Ocean City, NJ!!

Welcome!

:)

@mom2college

Northern California…San Jose.

Illinois :)

"Thanks m2ck and D2ILD,

Dad, we are neighbors. My girlfriends and I make a point of having lunch and shopping in Libertyville every year during the Christmas season."

Add another neighbor - we are not from Libertyville but close I attended LHS. Still trying to get our heads around Alabama, which wasn’t on our radar until a couple of weeks ago. We are still waiting for the paperwork too but our son (engineering major) qualifies for the Presidential Scholarship and the engineering stipend.

Welcome! That free tuition plus 2500 per year is hard to beat!! Have you applied? The apps are really easy. You do have to do the scholarship app as well…it’s easy…and even though the scholarships are assured, you still have to submit the S app.

Yes, he’s applied but hasn’t done the scholarship portion yet. They are behind on matching the ACT scores (earlier this week I was told they had 6000 to go through).

*They are behind on matching the ACT scores (earlier this week I was told they had 6000 to go through). *

? Who is behind? ACT corporation? Are you saying that ACT hasn’t electronically sent some scores to colleges yet for the Sept exam?

Do you know what your son’s highest ACT is so far from a single sitting? If he already has an ACT 30 or more, he already has the free tuition and 2500 per year for engineering. :)

Hopefully someone can chime in here. Does anyone know if the scholarship app asks what your ACT or SAT is? Either way, there’s no reason to wait. Bama will get the score when it comes in and award accordingly. No worry there at all.

Who is behind? ACT corporation? Are you saying that ACT hasn’t electronically sent some scores to colleges yet for the Sept exam?

The school is behind in matching up the scores. I had thought it would electronic/automatic, which apparently is not the case, at least not fully. My son chose Bama as one of the schools to automatically send his scores to on the September test; his application status now reflects they were received yesterday.

His score falls into the 32-36 range. Not worried about acceptance or the scholarship yet it would be nice to have it all on paper and official.

We requested ACT scores for one school back at the beginning of Sept and that school still has not received them. I contacted the school yesterday and they indicated that there was some issue with the electronic delivery but was hopeful it would be resolved next week.

We requested ACT scores last week for UA and they still don’t have them…this is all we are waiting on. Not sure what is going on with ACT…

(By the way, we are requesting scores from Mar. 2011…so everything should be in the system and easily delivered electronically.)

Ahhh…so is the school delaying sending transcripts until all of this is done? Wow…your child’s school has 6,000 test scores to go thru? How big is the school? Wow.

BTW…anyone who is waiting for Bama to indicate that they’ve rec’d scores can contact their area rep to check on things. Sometimes ACT and SAT have sent the scores, but the college hasn’t yet “uploaded” them into its system.

Think of it this way…if you send me an email with an attachment that needs to be uploaded into my computer, I will get the email immediately into my inbox, but if I delay opening the email and downloading the attachment, my computer isn’t going to know that I’ve actually rec’d your email days ago. That often goes on. Bama doesn’t upload things every day into its system.

I should have been more clear. University of Alabama admissions is who is behind. They are ones who told me they have 6,000 scores to match up.

Ahhh…lol…that makes sense…I couldn’t imagine any high school having 6000 scores from just one Sept ACT test date. .

Still, it shouldn’t take too long for Bama to get the scores matched to the students… It should happen electronically. I don’t think it’s done by hand unless some kids took exams without including a SSN number or correct/current home address so matching can be a problem.

Anyway…don’t feel like you have to delay submitting the scholarship app while this matching process proceeds. Bama will always ultimately award the best scholarship that the person is entitled to get according to the req’ts.

FYI…to others…If you currently qualify for a lower scholarship, and perhaps will score better during the Nov SAT, don’t worry about applying now for scholarships…you will get that bigger scholarship if your scores go up to the right amount.

(Wow…to think Bama has 6,000 score reports just from one ACT exam. wow)

Bump…

My son was just accepted, and is working on his honors college apps. He is a NMSF from Washington State, and the first student in recent history from his big public high school to apply to UA. Sort of surprising, since they usually have 20-25 National Merit Finalists.

^^^

Well, maybe when some hear about the deal he’s being offered, Bama will get more apps from those NMSFs!

Welcome and congrats to your son!

SEA_Tide posts here and he’s from Washington. :)

Well, it’s looking more and more like my son will be attending UA in Fall, 2012. I have mixed feelings because it is so far from our home here in Michigan. I have yet to see any Michiganders posting here…it seems there is not much recruiting taking place in our state.

wdaveo … congrats. And while the distance in “miles” is great, and hard to reconcile initially, we quickly realized that she can still be home within a few short hours. We just need to plan further in advance for her trips home. She is coming home for the 1st time in 2 weeks for Fall Break, which will be the first time since we dropped her off August 13th. Also remember that technology is your friend. Skype allows us to “see” her whenever she’s willing to plop her behind down in front of her computer. This has made the separation so much easier, especially for my wife to be able to “see” that she’s well and happy on a regular basis. You should feel good about your decision! Roll Tide!

wdaveo: Are you originally from Michigan?

You might want to contact the regional recruiter for Mich.

According to this page there are a lot of recruiting events scheduled in Michigan!

That said, I recently looked at the OOS cost from Mich St. Can’t imagine why anyone would pay that high of OOS costs for a non-flagship. It’s a very good school, but the OOS tuition is very high. Bama needs to recruit THOSE folks, too…lol

Out-of-state tuition and fees: $31,148 (very high for a non-flagship OOS tuition)
Room and board: …$8,154
Books and supplies: …$1000
