Eastern Pennsylvania…hoping to come soon for a visit!

Great! Welcome!

before you visit…

set up a campus tour time online…

[Campus Visits - Undergraduate Admissions - The University of Alabama](Visit)

try for the early morning tour on a WEEK DAY that is not a Bama holiday. The faculty and profs are not on campus on weekends or Bama holidays.

If you want an Honors tour…

If time is precious, only set up the campus tour and not the info session. The info at the info session can easily be found on the Bama forum (or by asking in a thread). By only scheduling the campus tour, that will give Allison more time to schedule meetings with faculty and such earlier in the day.

send an email to Allison Verhine in the Honors College

In the email, include:

tour time and date
student name & contact info
test scores and GPA
(if a likely NMF, indicate so)
intended major
professional interests (pre-med, pre-law, pre-dental, etc)
interest in Computer Based Honors program and/or University Fellows Program (if desired)
Also, include any thing else that interests you about the school…such as touring the new Science and Engineering Complex and Shelby Hall.

Allison will arrange the rest of the day…meeting with dept heads, honors faculty, touring honors dorms, etc.

Special Note!
Allison works very hard on these arrangements and often “hits the ground running” everyday meeting with prospective students/families, so it may take her a few days to respond. However, if you don’t get a response within a few days, resend AND call her. Sometimes mail goes to her SPAM folder and she doesn’t see it.

Hi! I am a new member here. My daughter was accepted to UA Honors College. We live in Tennessee. Alabama was not even on our radar until we found out about the offers for National Merit Scholars. She has applied for CBHP as well as UFE. We are scheduled to go to Capstone Scholars day, but are trying to set up a more personal visit at another time as well. I have read the glowing reviews on here and we are excited about visiting. Happy New Year!

Welcome!

Congrats to your D for making NMSF!

Yes, do try to also come for an honors tours.

Bumping for new visitors to the forum.

:)

NMFSDad, welcome! One of my son’s roommates is from Tennessee (Greenville). They are good buds. We’re from North Carolina, and we love those Tennessee mountains!

bump…

Thanks so much for the warm welcome! We are very excited about visiting and really appreciate all the input in this forum. Special thanks to m2ck for the info about setting up a personal visit. I emailed Allison this week and she has graciously set us up on a date that worked for us. Thanks for the welcome LD! We’re practically neighbors! What a wonderful resource this place is. :)

Welcome, nmsfdad, I guarantee you’ll love it! Looking forward to seeing you on this forum more often!

Hi~

What is the difference between honors tour and regular tour?

For us the honors tour included the regular tour, in which a very articulate student took a group of visitors around the campus in a van and on foot, showing us the facilities and sharing the history of UA.

The honors tour, per se, included an audience with Dean Shane Sharpe, participation in an Honors College seminar, lunch with an Honors College student ambassador, a tour of the super suite dorms, an audience with President Witt, and a meeting with a curriculum advisor in my son’s intended major. It was unbelievable and he left feeling as though he’d been treated like a 5-star football recruit.

im from bergen county, up north almost to the ny border!

It’s official. My Tennessee daughter will be a member of the class of 2016.

That’s very cool, Yankee Belle! What part of TN are y’all from? We are close to Nashville.

We are just west of Chattanooga, living on slow time.

Cant believe I haven’t seen more, but reporting in from Raleigh, North Carolina. Born in La Grange Illinois, lived in Elmhurst a couple years and have lived in Nc for 14 years now. Bama isn’t for sure yet, waiting on Clemson scholarship offer, but Bama is looking a lot better right now, going to visit sometime in February

Welcome Golfingtee7. Roll Tide!

*What is the difference between honors tour and regular tour? *

Pretty much what Malanai said.

After you do the regular campus tour (which you reserved online), then you’ll meet with honors faculty and dept faculty of your major. You’ll also tour the honor housing halls.

To do an honors tour, you need to set up your regular campus tour (try for an early time) and contact Allison about 2 weeks or more in advance (the earlier, the better). Allison needs time to coordinate schedules and such.

Welcome to all the new posters! :)

RTR!

Hey m2ck… sorry to butt in, but are you saying we need to set up a regular tour AND an honors tour? I have already set up a tour with Allison that starts at 9am. Does that mean we won’t get the whole tour, just the honors tour? I’m easy to confuse. HA!

You need to set up a CAMPUS tour online. Allison doesn’t do that.

the honors tour isn’t really a “tour”…it’s setting up appts with honors faculty and dept heads and showing you the honors dorms.

Honors doesn’t do the campus tours…Admissions does those.

Once you have a campus tour booked, then you need to tell Allison so she won’t make appts during your tour time.

If you’re coming on Friday, it may be too late to book a Friday tour. :(

If all the Campus tours are booked, then I don’t know what can be done. A lot of people will be there on Friday, so your only hope would be to arrive as early as possible and try to get on a waiting list in case there is a “no-show”. Since the tour involves a small bus with a set number of seats, so it’s not like they can just add a few extra people. :(
