I think there should be a list of "underrepresented" states. Would Arizona be one?

I hope Oregon is one of them!!!!!!!

I'd definitely think Oregon is.

Hopefully Hawaii..

I'd feel comfortable saying: the Dakotas, Wyoming, Oregon, Utah, Iowa, and Idaho are some that come to mind. Just think of states with low populations along with less than stellar educational systems, and for the most part the midwest will dominate this list.

To llpitch: Hawaii would be tough to call, though if you go to the Kamehameha School, you probably don't need to worry about being underrepresented.

Hawaii is definitely underrepresented.

I remember hearing about an admissions officer at my school saying they didn't take anyone from one of the Dakotas this year because no one who was qualified applied. I was pretty shocked.

I don't think Oregon is one. I think places like Arkansas, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Oklahoma fit the bill. Sorry! I could be wrong, of course. Oregon and WA just seem pretty built up with lots of highly educated people sending their children to good schools. At least more than the other ones I mentioned. I don't think AZ fits the bill either.

"underrepresented" where? I bed North Dakota is pretty well represented at the university of North Dakota....

Probably at HYPS and other top schools. I think that is what the OP means.

Generally: North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Alaska, Idaho, Montana. States with low populations.
Obviously states further from the school are more likely to be underrepresented (except for the big ones, i.e. mass, new york, cali, texas). Arizona and Oregon could well be considered underrepresented at the east coast schools

Yeah, it all depends on the school. Arkansas, for example, is pretty well represented in a lot of southern lac's.

That's why you can't just have one master list, unless it's for one specific school.

Arizona is one. That is because there is no one here. Seriously. There's a reason who they call it desert. Because it's deserted!

Is Alabama one of them? At least at small, private colleges in the Northeast?

Kansas wasn't mentioned yet.

Montana!!!!!

Somebody answer my question, I want to be underrepresented too!

How about Rhode Island? Its really small, but I think it has a pretty high population...

Rhode Island has tons of smart kids who matriculate to ivies, doesn't it?

Being from New England generally hurts your chances in terms of representation.

What about Wisconsin? Any idea if it is underrepresented out east?
