What stats should I have for Plan II Honors?

Hello, I'm in the top 5% of my class. What are the typical stats of an accepted Plan II Honors student, such as ecs, SAT I, SAT II, and IB/AP scores? What is perhaps the lowest stat of an accepted Plan II student? Which is easier to get into, the liberal arts honors or the Plan II honors?

Thanks alot.

Profiles of past admitted and graduated classes

Liberal Arts Honors is far easier to get accepted to than Plan II. Many PII kids use LAH as their fallback choice within UT if they don't get Plan II.

Usuall Plan II kids are at the 1400+ level on the SAT. Only 11% of the accepted kids were below 1300. 67% were in the top 5% of their high school class.

Hope this helps.

For being in top 5% of your class, a 1400 on SAT math/verbal combined will guarantee admission. A 1300-1350 will still leave you a decent shot.

LAH is way easier than Plan II... but you don't wanna be in that.

Also, a few 700+ SAT2s will help make up for a sub 1400 SAT. But really just break 1400. It's not like it's that hard.

I wouldn't be so sure that 1400 and top 5% is a shoe-in for Plan II. They pay very serious attention to your essays, ECs, and overall profile too. Plan II applicants are basically Ivy-league (+ Stanford, Duke, U Chicago, etc) material.

Liberal Arts Honors is better than nothing, especially if UT is the best one can do. It will give people a leg up on graduate and professional school admission, and it means fewer classes with the typical community college types who pervade many of the LA majors.

picox, your attitude is astounding

my D is doing LA, and there is nothing wrong with community college

when you bash whole groups the way you do, you show ignorance and arrogance, and nothing else you say has any merit or meaning

just an fyi

Hey guys thank you so much for your advice. I got in to Plan II!

Congratulations!

Congrats!

I have a question though: Can you take Liberal Arts Honors courses instead of the general UT ones if you are in Plan II?

Yeah, but you do have to speak to an adviser/the professor about it.

You can? I was told by the LAH director that as I was in Plan II, I couldn't be in LAH.

So do I just ask my advisor at orientation if I can register for an Honors section?

i just got into plan 2 too. i didn't think i would. but i did have above a 1400 and i am in top 5%. BUT i have pretty much solid B's in AP english and history for sophomore and junior year. and limited ECs. soooo. if that gives anyone hope..

Kcb my stats are lower than yours and my hope has pretty much died anyway so I'm just waiting on my rejection letter haha

Grades and SAT scores are ONLY 20% of the total. You can get in with not-so-great grades and SATs. In fact, some people have been accepted to P2 but then rejected by the university because of those grades and scores.

However, usually the kids with the best grades and scores are the best writers, and the essays are 40%, so that makes a big difference. That's why there are a lot of kids accepted with high grades and scores BUT it is NOT mandatory to have them.

Aaah loneranger you're a star. Haha no but seriously, you're such a great help on here. Can't wait to see you next year (and probably not know who you are)!

lalalexi08, don't lose hope yet.
like honestly. my application essays were absolutely mediocre. i'm not even a good writer. i got a 6 on the SAT essay both times i took it. i think they really look for some special quality. like maybe my sat scores and class rank completely saved me... i dun know. does plan 2 practice affirmative action? anyone know? cuz that mighta saved me too...

Haha I don't think they do. It would be INCREDIBLY great if they did, since I'm a black female and there are like NONE in Plan II. But yeah, I'm secretly crossing my fingers but I don't want to get my hopes up.

Rejection letters will be mailed our pretty soon.
Good luck.

^Aaaahhhh my heart just dropped into my stomach at that one.

I just got in today! Totally wasn't expecting such an early reply. The letter was dated 2/27, so I got accepted into Plan II Honors about a week ago. I am so incredibly excited :)

My stats were: 3.65 unweighted/4.48 weighted GPA; 1510/2310 SATs; no class rank; most rigorous courseload possible.

Now, just waiting for BHP...

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!

^Congratulations!
