this has been bothering me for a while... hopefully others are having the same dilemma as well.

i know that there's obviously math, science, language arts, and social studies. but how about foreign language? (i don't know if that's considered an elective or a core class). also, how about classes like orchestra, or even technology classes?

Im asking my AP US History teacher and my AP Calc BC teacher
I heard that it is the best to get one teacher from the social science/foreign language/english subjects and another from the science/math subjects.
if you can get good rec from both, it shows that you are well rounded, good in both kinds of subjects.
As for myself, I am just worried that I might not be getting the best recs.

what if the best writer at my school is my advanced health teacher. Ik now its an odd class, but its called ASPEN at my school and i had to tryout for it. Even though the class is not like AP calc or anything she has known me for 3 years, is an excellent writer and so forth? Would this be ok?

i am going to get a rec from a science teacher(as i would be a prospective science major) and then and english teacher to balance it out. so they will talk about different aspects of my personality. i advise you to take a similar approach as long as you know your teachers know you and will write decent recs.

Foreign language is a core class, though some schools such as U Chicago don't allow a foreign language teacher to fill out either of the two main recs.

I got mine from my English and Spanish teachers.

Latin teacher is a definite. The second one is either Art History or English, depending on who I hear writes better recommendations. The Art History teacher is a loveable old lady, who really likes me, but she's kind of losing it, if you know what I mean.

Some schools consider language humanities, but others don't.

I have TONS of math / sci teachers who love me (3+ would write me "best in career" recs), but I am also struggling with humanities and wondering whether to ask my Spanish teacher, even though it's not "as" academic.

ahhh... see, that's the problem. i know uchicago explicitly says no foreign language teachers. but others don't. hopefully it means that foreign language recs are fine, but i don't know... it's important to play it safe. :(
