What summer programs look the best for college admissions? I'm a junior this year and I test pretty well (I did really well on my sophmore PSAT and I'm currently studying to take the SAT and PSAT this year), but my GPA isn't that good (3.7 unweighted, 4.3 weighted) so I need one that will look good for college that is not heavily based on grades. Thanks!

ok, what kind of program are you looking for? Like what kind of subjects (math, science, etc?) and location?

sorry I didn't specificy...I'm pretty-well rounded, and really good in science (especially chem) , but not as good in math. I'm really interested in politics though and I think I would have more fun doing something with politics and/or government. As for location, I don't really care.

haha RSI for science... u might look under the thread for most prestigious summer programs in this forumn.... there's a nice list there :)

Yeah I'm trying to stay away from the whole math/science thing I just really like politics and want to do something with that if possible.

you could do a high level debate camp or the JSA camp or something like htat... or you could study abroad..

Yeah I have friends that did that JSA thing..I think I'll apply to that. Does that look good for colleges though? My mom will only let me do 1 or 2 programs a summer, so I want to make sure they count for something.

Real community service, and local is good. Examples: Tutoring kids struggling academically, recreational activities with disabled or socially disadvantaged children, "Habitat for Humanity" and similar, tutoring adults who can't read, animal rescue or animal shelter activities.

Apply for the Congressional Page program

I already tutor and volunteer twice a week at church :) hm i'll look into congressional pae sounds interesting :)

if u live in texas, apply to Welch Summer Scholar Program.
its chemistry based and quite hard to get in.
of course, if u do, its TONS OF FUN and RESEARCH!!!

there's National Youth Leadership Forum on Defense, Intelligence, and Diplomacy

i've heard that everyone gets the invitation for that though...

National Youth Leadership Forum, yes I think I got that in a mail the other day. The got my high school wrong. LOL Funny how they could manage that.
