I know they probably will have virtual revisit days etc. But just wondering what they would offer to the students they admit right after the announcement date. Would they be open for 1-1 calls for the student/family? We need to answer my local school within 2 days of M10 so it is a bit a rush for my family to make decisions. Ideally my family could have calls with admission officer or even better could connect with current students/parents to answer questions.
It’s reasonable to explain the situation and ask for a scheduled call after hearing a positive decision. If financial aid is a factor, you can schedule that as well.
In addition, the admissions office may be able to match you with a student as well.
@Jane90 A thought from where I sit (easy; I’m not in your shoes): but I wonder if it might help to frame up the decision a little differently. The only decision that needs to be made is whether to eliminate the day school. You don’t need to decide which of the BS you want to select in two days. The decision is: boarding or day. That’s it for M12.
And I might say that the BS experience is so different from the day school experience that the BS options would be (comparatively speaking) much more similar by comparison. So I would throw out there that you probably have the defining key information you will need to make that boarding/day call already. Which means, you can be making this decision now, rather than in the crazy, emotional aftermath of M10.
Put another way, talking to a student or AO at BS isn’t going to add (new) valuable information about what boarding school is in general (vs. day) that changes that boarding-or-day calculus. (But it might, of course, inform distinctions among boarding schools. but you have a month for that.)
Rather than create an information frenzy for yourself where things feel fuzzy and spinning and decisions feel rushed, maybe give some thought now to boarding school versus day. I’m guessing you attended a gazillion zooms these past few months so have already gathered a ton of information on that. But if not, check school websites because they have many of these zoom sessions recorded, and you could watch now.
As my mom always said: make sure you are answering the right question. It’s often a subset of the “entire” question that we are telling ourselves we need to answer.
And, again, I point out that I could be wrong here for you. You have to do what’s right for you. I mean this as an invitation to make things less stressful.
Thank you very much both for thoughts and suggestions!
Choate has an army of parents assembled to take/make calls to new students and families.
Is it a piece of insider information for this year or based on the last year’s experience?
Insider info. There is always a parent network to support new admits, but normally the revisits are the focus for new admits and the showcase events. This year the school is recruiting all remote resources to help new admits make those tough decisions.
