what the best thing to do

Hello i'm going to be a freshmen the coming school year and i want to plan for college.

I'm divided because to be a likely candidate for Stanford University my Guidance Councilor
say i should take 3-4 years of a foreign language and my main options are Spanish & German.
Now this were i'm stuck at should i Take Spanish for 4 years, German for 4 years, 2 years Spanish 2 years German. I want to have the strongest attributes for when i apply for Stanford
and if this helps i want to major in Computer Engineering.

Any help would be greatly appreciate any help.

The choice of language does not matter. Pick the one you like better and stick with it for 4 years.

thanks!

any other ideas would be great.

I hope this doesn’t sound mean, because it’s intended to be helpful. Taking a foreign language is a good idea, but you also need to improve your written English. I can’t really tell from your post if you (a) were just writing quickly and being careless, (b) are not a native English speaker, or (c) really don’t write well. I counted nearly 20 errors in spelling, punctuation, capitalization and grammar, and that just won’t do at Stanford.

I’m sorry i have trouble with English as it is my third language, the second being Arabic.

i have been taking classes for a few weeks now and plan to do so alongside Spanish through out high school.

Cool - three languages already! I just looked at the Stanford website, and it says they don’t have a specific set of requirements. However, they recommend three years of the same language. You can see what they look for here:

[Academic Preparation : Stanford University](http://www.stanford.edu/dept/uga/basics/selection/prepare.html)

I think other colleges would also prefer you to take three (or four) years of one language. So, it seems like in general your counselor is giving you good advice.

But here’s an interesting question I don’t know the answer to: does the language recommendation apply to someone who already speaks three languages?
