What the hell is wrong with the VDOT?

Why the sudden new eight ton limit for McCormick Rd Bridge? Today was my first time riding the Trolley since the rule was implemented-- and the Trolley went down Alderman Rd then Ivy Rd onto University Ave rather than go on to the Chem Building (it could at least go down Emmet!). The bridge seems structurally sound to me-- it has zero vibration when busses pass over it, unlike some bridges in NYC I know...

I noticed the routes were different last week for orientation, but I thought it was an orientation thing until I read this: [McCormick Road Bridge Posted at 8 Ton Weight Limit - NBC29 WVIR Charlottesville, VA News, Sports and Weather](http://www.nbc29.com/story/19006084/mccormick-road-bridge-off-limits-to-vehicles-over-8-tons). I really hope that VDOT decides and acts soon. It will be highly inconvenient for a main thoroughfare of the university to lack bus service. And, whether they repair or replace, let’s all hope it is faster than the JPA project!

Thankfully, VDOT has engineers that don’t base their assessment of bridge safety on your criteria “The bridge seems structurally sound to me-- it has zero vibration when busses pass over it”. There are a lot of road/bridge construction needs in Virginia. Consider yourself fortunate if VDOT gets to it soon rather than 2-3 years down the road.
