What time to arrive for football?

My roommate and I are supposedly going to the football game together tomorrow and we are wondering what time we should get there. I don't know what goes on before if anything that we might like to participate in, or how early we should get there to get seats together. Can anyone educate me please? :)

Work backwards - kickoff is at 3:30 p.m. It is the 1st game with a whole new freshman class that doesn’t know how things work. The stadium is still under construction. It will be a bit slow loading the stadium with fans. You want to be inside the stadium gates at least by 3:00 p.m. if you want to see the kickoff.

The security can be ridiculous and it is usually the worst for the first game of the year. I never leave early enough for the games and almost always miss the kickoff. The freshmen usually don’t sit in the assigned seats so getting there early helps for that too. I would try to get there by 3:00 so you see the band and the team enter the stadium. You also need to allow enough time to walk there. It can take 40-45 minutes to get there from Markley; probably 20-25 minutes from South Quad. If you haven’t been to a game before, it is quite a spectacle to watch the crowd converge upon the stadium.

Not trying to jack this thread, but I’m a HS senoir and my friend is a college frosh (not going to UM). We are both going to the game. Is there a fraternity or somewhere else that we can hang with UM kids before the game?

We are leaving from East Quad. What would be the best way to get to the stadium?

jrt-Yes, there are numerous frats, as well as a bunch of houses on State Street and elsewhere where you can tailgate prior to the game.

Twisted-Take east university to hill, make a right, then hill to state, make a left, then right on hoover and follow the huge crowd of people wearing yellow.

You won’t have any trouble figuring out how to get there. All you have to do is follow everyone else. UMgoBlue’s directions are the best from East Quad.

So you can just walk up to a frat and start partying with them? But they don’t really “party” before the games do they? Isn’t it more just chilling and playing beer pong? I guess I’ve never been to a frat that has a sorority over. Will UM freshman be at these frats?

BTW, after home games, the band usually plays a short concert on the field and then marches out of the stadium while each section does its own dance.
