I can take individual sections (with maybe 10 minutes in between) on the test and average them out to a 34. But when I take the sections in simulated test conditions, I always get a dip in my scores and end up with a 28 or something. How can I fix this? How much break time is there allotted between the math and reading sections on the real test?

I believe you get a 5 minute break between math and reading.

Definitely eat during the break! Stretch and just refocus your mind :)

Before practice tests try drinking a redbull or coke. These drinks have high sugar and caffeine content that only give a short-lasting shot of energy- which is perfect for a 3 hour test like the ACT (but it obviously won’t work for a whole day of final exams).

^ It sounds a little scary to try that on test day. Drinking red bull and whatnot early in the morning makes me want to vomit lol. Wake up early one day and try this (while taking a whole practice test) and see how it goes.

All I can say is good luck, broski.

tb0mb93- I believe I did mention to try it with a practice test rather than on test day. I agree, lol, it would not be wise to try this experiment on test day. :)

I’ve never had this problem and what I’m suggesting may be extreme but I’d simulate testing conditions for a practice SAT…

I know you are taking the ACT and not the SAT but the SAT is longer than the ACT. Taking a longer test “could” help you get used to the ACT time frame seeing how it is noticable shorter.

ACT w/Writing: 3hrs 15mins
ACT w/o Writing: 2hrs 45mins
SAT: 3hrs 45mins
