What to bring on move-in day?

I'm an international student and I will be moving to the USA this coming fall semester. So I'm kind of confused what to bring.. I have like lots of shoes and accessories.. should I bring them? or how much should I bring? Is it cheaper if I buy there? let me know what you guys brought!

I think buying new stuff there sounds more expensive… But larger things like a desk lamp are hard to bring with you :stuck_out_tongue: There are lots of great lists out there what you need to buy when you get to campus (sheets and other larger stuff are easier and smarter to buy there). Gewgle it ^^

so does that mean I only need to bring clothes and shoes?

Email the international students office at your college/university and ask them for recommendations of what you might need to bring and what you could buy here instead. If any students from your country are already studying there, those people will have good advice for you too.

Typically your room has a bed, desk and light. Your housing office has a list of suggested items to furnish your room. Contact them for more information. You do need to provide for your bedding which you can buy stateside (pillow, sheets, blankets).
You also need to provide your clothing, bath items-towels/toiletries, computer. Try not to bring too many bags because you may end up pulling them around for a while.

You will be severely restricted to what you can bring with you - about 22 kg I think, one suitcase (perhaps 2, but the total weight remains the same).
You’ll have to bring your favorite clothes, a big dictionary*, favorite objects/decoration/game/books, pictures of your family or places dear to you. Shoes: at least one open -toe pair, one closed-toe pair, one pair of sneakers. Long sleeved and short sleeved shirts, a button-down shirt, pajamas, enough underwear and socks to last you at least week, toilettries, favorite shampoo and perfume,
Towels, sheets, blankets, coats, you’ll buy in the US.
Do not bring anything electrical (i.e., hair dryer) since the power and the plug are likely different from your country’s.

 • you’ll need a small, pocket one for your backpack.
