What to bring to east halls?

I'm going to be a freshman next year staying in east halls. I was wondering what dorm stuff I should bring (and split with my roommate). I know we need a tv and a microwave/fridge is provided so anything else? an area rug?
Also, what clothes should I bring? Just basics?

“Also, what clothes should I bring? Just basics?”

Lets just say, more cold weather clothes than hot weather.

And the typical east dorm isn’t very big, so don’t bring too much. Not necessarily a helpful video, but a kind of humerus one: [How To Pack For Penn State (A Guide For Freshman) - YouTube](<a href=“How To Pack For Penn State (A Guide For Freshman) - YouTube”>How To Pack For Penn State (A Guide For Freshman) - YouTube)

Oh, but one thing they told me on the tour is that East halls, as of right now, are not all wireless in the dorms. They’re working on it, and should be done this coming year or the next, but IN east dorm rooms, you’re confined to an Ethernet cable, which I think you need to provide. You may or may not be aware of that, but just thought I’d let you know.

I would recommend a fan for those first few warm weeks and a clip lamp. Err on the side of less rather than more as the rooms are small. Anything crucial that you’ve forgotten can be purchased downtown at McClanahan’s, etc.
As for clothing, yes basics. And Penn Staters wear Penn State gear ALL THE TIME so plan on buying some tshirts and sweats once you get here. Maybe pack one nicer outfit in case you get involved in a club or group that has some formal-ish events. Some majors, e.g. engineering, encourage freshmen to attend career fair so they start to become familiar with the process, so consider one “business” outfit. And absolutely pack comfortable shoes, you’ll be doing a LOT of walking!
Best of luck. You’re going to love it!

If you have a lot of clothes you can take some of your lighter weight things home at Thanksgiving and bring back more warm clothes, then do the reverse at spring break. (You will need a warm coat before Thanksgiving.)

The one less obvious thing that my son wished he’d brought was a door stop, to prop the door open when he was just getting to know people in his dorm. (Walmart was sold out on move-in weekend, not that I would recommend shopping then.)

My son lived in Tener Hall last year - the rooms are very small and the desk/bookshelf cannot be moved so you don’t have a lot of options as far as room layout. He only had one small armoire type closet with very small drawers on the bottom which served a his dresser so try not to over pack. I would definitely recommend a fan, bed lifts to lift the bed so you can store those under bed storage bins and case of water, over-the-door hook to dry bath towels, an area rug because those floors can be cold for most of the year, his room was not wireless so you need the ethernet cable to hook up computer, power strips because each side only had 2 outlets each (not enough considering you have to plug in lamp, tv, phone charger, alarm clock etc…) he had a bed side storage cube he used as a night stand, desk lamp, a printer that he stored un the bed, stand up laundry basket that was squished into the armoire. If I can think of anything else I will post it…good luck!!
