can anyone tell me what to expect on orientation days? like what to bring:pillow, bed sheets, blanket, towel, toothbrush, toothpaste, paper, calculator, etc. also, will there be a lot of walking (in the heat!!) and eating?

You don’t need pillow, blankets, towel. They will provide that. Just bring a few days worth of clothes. Running shoes since there’s activities to play in, Paper…LAPTOP IS A MUST. to sign up for classes…it’s easier when you have your own computer and you don’t have to wait for a computer to be open. Water bottle. Otherwise You’re pretty much set. Flashlight too for the scavenger hunt…and to have fun at night and not get sleep.

Don’t bring pillow or bed sheets. I do think you need a towel though…not sure, I don’t remember.

But bring other toiletries, like toothbrush, tooth paste, Q tips, and what not.

Definitely a backpack, notebook, and a pen. Wear tennis shoes because you’ll be walking on campus all day. Bring some money (just in case), though UCLA will provide lunch and dinner for you (technically you paid for it when you signed up for Orientation). Agreed with Nox, bring some water bottles or gatorade because you’ll be thirsty at the end of the day. Of course, there are always vending machines in the dorms and around campus.

And of course, bring a camera! You’ll want lots of pictures and memories. Everyone LOVES Orientation and it’s something you’ll never forget here at UCLA.

A laptop isn’t a MUST, but it’s convenient. I remember I didn’t bring a laptop and I signed up for my classes just fine. Most people won’t have laptops with them. If you do bring a laptop, I would advise against using it other than signing up for classes. Please go talk with people and make friends instead of going on facebook and playing Starcraft.

One last thing, you may want to bring a sweater to sleep with because the blankets UCLA provides are quite thin and the room can get cold.

Yes, there’s a lot of walking (it usually doesn’t get very hot at UCLA). Pretty much the whole third day is spent touring campus, and there’s a big scavenger the night before where you’ll be walking round for an hour or two (you don’t have to participate but it’s a lot of fun).

I seem to remember the towels provided at Orientation were kind of small. There’s no harm in bringing your own.

so what will we be doing the first 2 days then? and when will we know our dorm hall/dormate/how many people per room?

First two days are mostly workshops and presentations, and getting to know the people in your group (and other groups as well). You’ll also be figuring out what classes you want to enroll in on the afternoon of the second day, and meeting with your counselors.

When you check in on the first day of orientation, you’ll find out what room you’re in, and once you move in, you’ll meet your roommates. There’s probably going to be 2 others, as you’ll be staying in Rieber Terrace (3 people per room, shared bathroom with another room of 3 people).

There’s also a super fun sexual harassment workshop on the morning of day 3

There’s a thermostat in the room. My orientation roommates and I spent two miserable, cold nights before figuring that out on the third day.
