What to bring?

I know that the O-Week website has a list of things that we would need at Rice, but what else did current students find useful and/or nice to have during their first year?

So far, I have posters, sewing kit, cd/dvd storage, mattress pad, and batteries.

Thanks!

bump...(10 char)

The top of the Parents forum has many threads dedicated to "what to bring" lists. However, don't do too much shopping until you've received your college assignment and communicated with your room/suite mates to save on duplication of items.

Things I would add (I haven't been to the Oweek website in a year):

*TV/Refrigerator/Microwave/furniture--work out with your room/suitemates.
*some sort of rug is nice
*a first aid kit
*utensils (a plate, fork/knife/spoon, tumbler glass)
*floor lamp (lighting is terrible)
*ethernet cable

That's all I can think of right now.

You might want a featherbed like this: Twin XL Feather Bed | Extra Long Twin Feather Bed.

The mattresses are NOT like what you're used to at home. Featherbeds make them a lot more comfortable! (You would put it between the mattress and the mattress cover.)

maysixxmom: Had no idea that the parents forum had so many useful threads on this topic. Thanks!

jon314: Thanks for the list!

blackeyedsusan: Thanks for the featherbed tip!

you will also get a notification soon from your residential college with a fairly comprehensive list

Wet swifter for the common room if you have one was really good as were the Clorox wipes. Makes a quick clean up easy.

Bring a decent umbrella.
